Interested in your pre 64 300 H and H setups. Scope choice and rings that seemed to work well. Has anyone had custom dial/ turret made? Thanks in advance. I just purchased one without a scope, I hope I can find some ammo.

Any dial based on 300 Win short mag will be for all intents and purposes identical to 300 H&H.

I have a Leupold VX5 HD 3-15 with the CDS dial and illuminated dot. It will stay with this rifle. Have shot it out to 700yds and the dial is spot on.

I have a 3-9 Zeiss Conquest on my 300 H&H now but for years it wore a straight 6x Burris Signature. I am more of a hunter than a long range sniper and the 6X is simple, and all I ever needed for everything from pronghorns to deer, elk and black bears. I wish you luck on your hunt for ammo. It is more than scarce right now.

Leupold VX5HD in 2-10x42 with CDS and Firedot reticle would be a fantastic choice for your 300 H&H. Mine is set in Talley rings/bases.

on most of my kickers i use dual dovetail rings and bases and once set up right they have never moved in most hunting, ( use the scope of your choice) including a fall that hurt me and damaged the rifle and scope. when the rifle was shot several days later it was only off by 3 " at 100 yards. the scope was a 2-7x leupold and leupold replaced it when i sent it later. one of my rifles with that set up.

Does the dove tail set of rings only have once screw on either side?

I have a custom .300 HH on a M70 action. I shoot 180gr hand loaded Barnes TSX bullets. I use a Swaro Z5i 3.5-18x44 BT scope. Setting the turrets is easy as long as you know the muzzle velocity. Use the Swaro Ballistic tables and set it up.
I set zero at 250 yards, so am good to 400 yds with minimal changes or hold over. Beyond 400 yds, I have set the stops but have done any appreciatable hands on steel shooting at those ranges. The elk in my area are usually closer than 300 yds, hence no need. Same for Africa....

do the Talley rings attach directly. I’ve seen some at pre64win.com

Have a custom in M70 action, great wood, 24" barrel - electric accurate.

i have light weight talley one piece rings-base and they do mount directly on the reciever and they do have four screws on each ring. the rifle i have them on is a kimber 84M hunter in 7mm08 that weights 6lbs 2 onces with a leupold fx-11 4x 33mm scope.
