Guys is there anyway to make my model 70 Safari express hold more than 3 rounds of 375 H&H in the mag?
Or is their a way I can modify it?

With mine I can load 3 in the mag and take the fourth one and depress it into the mag about half way then cycle the bolt and it will successfully pick up the cartridge so I have 1 in the chamber and 3 in the mag. Not exactly what you were asking but it at least gets you 4 in the rifle when you start your hunt/stalk.

Following I am very interested in replies that will soon come in.

Yeah 3+1 its the only way I know of to get it to hold more than 3, I’m hoping someone knows of some sort of extension or something I can do to it to hold more.

The only thing that I could think of would be to change out the bottom metal to accept a Dropbox magazine. I don't know If that would even be possible.

KAK industries, if still around, used to make an extended magazine. They are not the most aesthetically pleasing, but do what you were after. I don’t remember if they made it specifically for .375.

Thanks for you’re answer, I was also thinking about that but I thought someone might have another idea,

I wonder if someone make a smaller extension so it won’t have to have a mag?

You have a Rigby Type III floor plate fitted to your Winchester Model 70 by a competent gunsmith.

Interestingly enough, the pre-War Winchester Model 70 rifles in .375 Holland & Holland Magnum (the heavy barrel variants) had a magazine capacity of 4+1.

The KAK one I recall was solid bottom metal. Kind of flush with the trigger guard. There may be other commercially available – non-– custom – options out there. That is only one that came to mind.

Call Duane Wiebe and see if he has any of his XRM mag boxes left. They were slightly trapezoidal and designed to allow more rounds down.

Some say that changing the magazine spring will allow another round in the magazine, but I’m not sure if that works for rounds other than the 375 H&H, which has a more sloped case. I think that the spring was changed on my 416, and I can actually force four rounds into the magazine, but it is too tight to work the bolt thereafter, and I had to unload the magazine through the floorplate. Since I didn’t change the spring, I’m not sure the correct one was used for the conversion - it is missing the “hump” and works fine with three rounds.

I have heard good things about the Sunnyhill shown earlier in this thread, but that takes a re-stock, which seems like a really expensive proposition for one additional round.

I contacted Wiebe a number of months ago, and he was no longer making the XRM magazine boxes at that time. I saw a thread on another forum (24 Hour Campfire?) that had a discussion of this issue and pictures and dimensions of the Wiebe magazine. I have thought about having one fabricated, but not sure who to have do that work or the cost.

Another member here has shown me a drop floorplate that Alaska Arms makes for Rugers, that actually was not unattractive. Would be nice if they would make it for the M70. I reached out and asked the question but never heard back. Seems like they would sell like hotcakes on a site like this.

Thanks so much, I feel the only good way is to have a new stock built and yes that would be expensive,
My 375 shoots the factory barns 300 tsx easily into less than an inch and I’m thinking I made the right choice buying it, just wanted more rounds in the mag.
So maybe one day I might justify having one made,
But if I were to do that I wonder if I would have to change everything, like the trigger, or trigger guard and flore plate

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
