Winchester Model 70 in 404 Jeffery

The "new" Montana rifle Co. currently has such a rifle in their que. Maybe sometime in 2026 or 2027.
Take a look at some of the earlier threads on this subject. Cost was / is anticipated to be in the $3,600 neighborhood.
Interesting. I bought a MRC from @krish NIB that is a Safari Express 404 Jeffery complete with gold everything for $7200. To be clear this was made from the now defunct MRC not the new company

I have been down this road. At the end - you may go to Africa. If you want a 404 Jeff, then you have one built, modified or find a good used one. There is no inexpensive option. If you can afford to hunt dangerous game, then you can afford a .400 Jeff by Dakota or Parkwest or someone. These are out there but are not cheap.
Ammo runs $10 per shot or more, so if you choose not to afford one, buy a .375 HH or .416 Rigby or Rem and enjoy the hunt.

The hunt is not about the rifle, it is about the experience.

No carpenter has a custom hammer and has it in the pics of his house. Same with guns in the pic with your buff or lion.

Close…The average price for 404 Hornady is $160 or $8 per shot. I was pleasantly surprised to find there is so much available

Rebarrel a 416 rem mag and grind off little projections on mag well sides to let it open up to hold 3 rounds.
I used 416 Rem bottom metal from Blackburn for my 404 build on 8mm Czech 98 Mauser and it worked perfectly without modification. I was intitially concerned the shoulder area might be a bit too narrow but as is I think it actually worked better than Paul Mauser's cosine 30° formula. The nose of top bullet is pointed directly at center of loading ramp. My 416 bottom metal holds three 404 cartridges in the box with a fourth pushed under the claw to close the bolt.

The box on 375 might need to be shortened or bullets could get pounded into the case from recoil. 375 is quite a bit longer OAL.

Most of the time I think Ontario Hunter is a loon…but when it comes to his 404 build knowledge I have to give him my respect given he has real experience doing it

Most of the time I think you don't have a clue but your assessment of my knowledge in this matter is 1000% correct. :D

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
