Winchester 70 XTR 7MM Mauser Just In!

Well now, if he buys the Heym, what then becomes of the Parker Hale .404?? Hmmmmm?:D:D:rolleyes:o_O:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My favorite make of rifle ( Winchester Model 70 ) and 1 of my favorite calibres : 7 × 57 Mauser. Congratulations on the new lovely addition to your battery. Do you plan to use Norma Orynx 152 grain soft points in it ? Or RWS 162 grain ammunition in it ? Either choices are very solid.

Thanks! I will hand load ammo for it. I'll most likely load a 140 grain bullet for deer. If I were to use it for larger game, I'd use a 150 gr Swift or something similar.

I was wondering where you were going to land on that one! Congrats!

I shot this rifle with the iron sights today. 25 yards only. Just wanted to check regulation of the sights. It shoots a bit high, so I will need to either adjust the rear sight down a bit, or install a taller front sight. I have a set of front sight inserts, so I may just install a taller insert, so the rear sight can stay all the way at the top. To me, that makes the rear sight easier to pick up in low light.

Thanks! I'll post pictures and a full write up when I get the Heym 404 in my hands. I had to have them ship it to me so I wouldn't have to pay sales tax in Texas.

Don’t blame you doing that, saves 9% or so. Looking forward to the pictures and review...

Take a look at my latest addition. Should make a great little Deer/PG rifle.
If it shoots as well as it looks, it will be a great rifle! Just need to add a scope. I'm thinking a 2-7×33 Leupold should fit nicely.

Nice rifle!

I have a 7X57 just like it and love it, it has a 2-7x33 Leupold on it and it's the right scope for the gun in my opinion.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
