Winchester 1886 50-110 EX

@fsrmg1 nice rifle. Not a clue about the calibre......can you equate it to one I would know please

Hi Spike,

It is originally a black powder round, typically shooting either a 300 gr in the 1600 fps range or a 450 at 1400 fps or so. With good BP (3fg), I have chronographed 330 gr at 1740 in my rifle. My duplex loads are doing 1860 fps.

With modern loads, in a strong action, I would probably put it in about the same general class as the 458 Win Mag. It's a 50 cal of course and shoots similar weight bullets at similar velocities.

All being equal, it doesn't have the sectional density of the 45 cal, but makes up for it in frontal area.

I shot this herfard years ago with my marlin md. 95 in 45-70 with a 405 gr hard cast GC bullet at 1900 fps, one shot between the eyes and the bullet was recovered in the spine 21" back of the head. I forget the retained weight, but I think it was around 300 grs. so that bullet went thru the complet skull front to back and 21"of spine. your 50-110 should do better with the right bullet

Lol! Just got to love shooting cows! Great picture!

Wow I had no idea Santa had such good taste in rifles;)

Your rifle/bullets will kill Cape buffalo very well. I have recently killed three cape buffalo in a row, DRT, with 50-110, at 1940 fps.

What bullet were you using??

Thanks,

Tim

Tarbe, My 50-110 is actually a 50-110 Win necked down to to true .500 cal, like the 500 S&W, Otherwise exactly the same as the 50-110 Win.

I use 410 grain Cutting Edge Bullets, Raptor bullet.

Thanks, for your interest,

Brian

Tarbe, Here it is.

My dream rifle right there.. a modern .50-110 is truly another category of lever gun.

Certus, You are right, the 50-110 is sure under rated. CEB has some great bullets for lever guns that will run at 2,000 fps. What a great Dangerous Game rig. Brian

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
