Will my Professional Hunter want me to bring more than a .270

my .270 is also my most accurate rifle , perhaps because I have my biggest magnification optics and it is my only rifle that has a silencer . But it shoots MOA at 250m .

I drive a 130g Hornady Interbond at 2900fps.

It's a wonderful cartridge. Southwind, absolutely awesome shooting. I'm sure my rifle is capable of that, not sure I am anymore lol.

Good for you. 270 win was my very first rifle. Seems like it is as deadly now as it was then.

During my last hunt at Monate Private Game farm, my friend Tom Septhon and his son used .270 Win Musgrave , 150 gn Norma bullet and they shot Blue wildebees and Impala..one shot only , animals did not go far...it is extremely accurate and they know the rifle by hart...(y)(y)

FWIW my wife expressed a similar interest... I picked up a youth model Mossberg 20 gauge on the cheap just to give her something to get started with and see what she thought about it..

It came with a rib, chokes, short stock (that almost fits her perfectly right out of the box), what they call an "EZ Reach" forearm (for smaller statured shooters), short bbl, etc.. for less than $300 out the door..

She absolutely loves it.. its soft on the shoulder, easy to control, etc..etc..

I've offered at this point to step her up to something nicer and have it modified if necessary to fit her properly.. and she refuses... she thinks that little $300 mossy is perfect for her in every way, and wont even look at a Browning, Remington, Winchester, etc..

Funny re-reading this thread... its amazing how much can change in a year...

Less than 12 months after I made the above post.. and she is officially a shotgun snob.. the Mossy isnt good enough anymore.. only her Webley and Scott 20ga O/U and her new Benelli Super Vinci will do now..

I dread what 2018 might bring.. this time next year she'll probably own a Peter Hofer Sidelock and a mid 1800's damascus Purdey :confused::p:D

Did a lot of hunting with a .270 even Eland.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
