Wild Pigs Kill More People Than Sharks

I've got a pretty good scar on my calf just above my boots that a boar gave me and I've been bit by a couple of sows also. All were the product of dispatching said pigs after my hog dogs had caught them. Point being, a pig can and will hurt you if you get carless around them or if they're fighting to get away.
I have had some friends get bitten while doing hog control, but they are doing live catch to sell them

"Hunters of Man" by Capt. John Brandt contains multiple stories of asian hogs killing humans, often in unprovoked circumstances such as attacking women on public roads, etc. One involved knocking over an ox cart and killing the driver. One woman was virtually cut in half at the small of her back. Evidently there are hogs--and then there are hogs! Some subspecies are just more lethal. But even a domestic hog can get the better of you in a pen.

A guy in the hunting club carries a 1911 .45ACP, because he is concerned about hogs. I carry as well, for the 2-legged varmints.

I worked with a guy years ago, that walked with a noticeable limp, from being gored by a boar with big tusks. Hunting pigs in the swamp, in thick cover.
His lower calf was halfway gone, due to blood loss and the muscle dying.

As I have written above, there are hardly any cases of non-hunters being attacked by wild boars, despite the fact that there are many various non-hunters in our fields and forests. There are always reports of so called dangerous encounters, but I don't know that there were any injuries or deaths.

Thank you for all the input guys, good to hear from the Europeans as well.

Just on this, I personally know a couple of none hunters attacked by Boars.

A friend of mine a couple of farms away was out doing some sheep work with his dogs, when all of a sudden a large boar exploded out of a blackberry gut & came straight for him, ripping him hard up the leg into the thigh, he managed to get up on his bike & kick it off with the other leg, lucky he wasn’t far from the farm house & his misses called the ambulance.

Also in that article I attached.

Of the 172 fatalities, 88% occurred in non-hunting circumstances; 77% of victims died due to blood loss; 86% of attacks occurred in daylight; 84% of victims were male and 62% of victims were adults; 38% of attacks involved farm workers engaged in agriculture; almost all attacks were by solitary pigs, except for 20 encounters featuring multiple pigs.

I have no idea if this is all true but it looked like legit research ?

Oh on my buddy that was ripped, I asked why the Hell didn’t his dogs help him & grap the bloody pig !

He said too we’ll trained & were never allowed to chases pigs when out working, I said Yellow streak breed them !!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
