Who hunted bear with a knife?

I’m always impressed at the hand combat stories with dangerous animals. At the same time, I always wonder at what percentage were dumb luck/divine intervention, physical skill, or tactical advantage on the part of the human in the stories.

According to family legend, my wife’s great-great grandfather killed a lion with a knife in the first Italo-Ethiopian War (Guerra d'Abissinia). Not sure about the details, but would be interesting if true.
There is a great story about Harry Wolhuter who killed a lion with a knife in Kruger. Von Gruff even makes a version of that “lion knife.”

If only he'd had a knife......

Show me a case from the last 50 years.
For me, these are all fantasies.
To hunt it is rather something for an indolent group of people multi tools supplier, who are also otherwise who are also not quite dense.
Does anybody have any recommendations on the Cutco hunting knives. I noticed they have an option of either straight edge or serrated edge. Which one would people recommend? It seems the serated edge would be better for cutting up meat, but the straight edge better for skinning. Any thoughts?

I got the book “19 famous hunters tells “ about their hunts , mostly narrated from their books they wrote.

One of them mentioned there was the actor Charles Bronson.

It tells of him hunting grizzly bear and puma. No other species interested him. Occasionally a moose , or a coyote if it came to close to his camp .
Bronson that in his time took more than 100 Grizzlies , once took a brownie with a knife .

The packhorse he had in one hand , Indian guide said grab rifle and shoot . Rifle in scabbards he so did and missed in the quick speed ranged Adrenalin filled space . Horse bucked and he was thrown out of saddle . Rifle hit the ground away from him .
He instinctively grabbed his knife and struck out after the bear 1,2,3 times . The snow was coloured red by the blood of the bear . It was deadly struck , and Bronson used that to get his
Rifle and got off the finishing shot . Where the bear was on the ground . Old Ephraim was down for good .

He didn’t like the hunting tourists , book continue to say . Americans stay in US , European in Europe etc

He really liked Argentina , the pampas and horses .

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
