Who has hunted Dangerous Game with .600 nitro express..?

Jip!

Also , the balistic data of earlier years suggest that the 600 NE was used at much lower velocities.... around 1750-1850f/s. Combined with the badly constructed bullets...... it would be a recipe for failure.

I suppose pretty much the same as the stigma around 458 Winmag’s . With today’s bullets and powders they perform perfectly well
100 %. The 458wm is an excellent point in case. With modern solid bullets like Woodleigh , Dzombo and Barnes , the 600 will penetrate even at sub 2 000 velocities.
Taking into account the relative cost of the hunts that its used for , its really not expensive to shoot.
and to boot.. its a lot of fun ! I have had ladies shoot the rifle also.

The Dzombos look very right...I have used these in .375H&H on elephant....worked very well..

That was a great video. There is an Azur Imperial in 600N.E. for sale on GI. Priced respectively considering?!?

All of this causes me to feel undergunned with a 470NE. Guess it's good that I didn't schedule a hunt using a 404Jeffery varmint rifle.
MS said that the .470 is for pussies and you can hunt only squirrels with that.
Bigger, heavier, more violent.
It goes on and on, even if there is no need for it.
The .700 fraction will claim that the .600 is still acceptable.Just so.
But one must not forget the great fun with these weapons.
As a merchant, I also think it's good that people spend their money.
And want to have is better than need.

All true. MS does own a 450/400 though. In my opinion the sweetest shooting double caliber out there. I believe MS said that his grand mother shoots a 470. lol. I think its a good hunting caliber.
When we ask the question what size caliber is NEEDED then the answer is....one can kill anything in Africa with a .308....and it has been done ..many times over.
Now , getting technical , and personal offcourse ( lol ) , one can argue for days what the ultimate minimum caliber for dangerous game is. Its a mixture of science , experience and just plain personal preference . My analogy is....... I can get really fast from point A to point B in a little turbo charged Japanese hatchback. They work great. a V8 Mustang does it so much more convincingly and it puts a smile on my face everytime I hit the gass . Nothing like cubic inches.

interesting to see that the first shot is not particularly impressive, despite the enormous 900 gr bulletweight.
You can tell you're a reloader, they always worry too much about their empty cases in the heat of battle  .

Addendum-
a PH from Zimbabwe told me, he even had exits with his handloaded .458 Win and Sledgehammer bullets (on side head shots, logo) from time to time.
@Foxi
This is very plausible . The skull of an elephant is noticeably thinner at the sides , than in the front ( which is honeycombed and filled with pockets of fluid ) . And elephant cows possess noticeably thinner skulls than elephant bulls .

This caliber has actually never played a role for hunting.
Since 1902, a little more than 200 !!! pieces in caliber .600 NE have only been built.
With millions of dead elephants since then.
All the better if someone leads them and gunsmithing art does not perish.
Happy New Year

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
