The ideas that a gun that doesn’t cost as much as a sizable down payment on a house is a starter gun .

Probably the same folks who decided a 375 is on the small end of things.

Cost is subjective. Buy the best you can afford in a financially responsible manner and don’t worry about what other people are doing. If there weren’t millionaires and billionaires keeping the fine gun and rifle makers in business those of us in lower income brackets wouldn’t have much to dream about, drool over and admire.

Now if you’re talking $10-20k (maybe more depending on myriad of factors) rifles you don’t have to be anywhere near a millionaire or even in the six figures IMO. Just takes time, patience and discipline. Having said that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a reliable, well done <$10k rifle if that’s all you can do. Like I said it’s a highly subjective matter.

Personally, Africa is HOPEFULLY going to be an every 5-6 years “thing” for me but to do that I can’t be saving for something that’s beyond my means. Compromises have to be made.

Some things, guns or other, simply require vast amounts of highly skilled manual labour (ex: H&H double) or very high precision automatic machining (ex: Heym double) in order to be of good mechanical function, let alone aesthetic excellence.

If someone tomorrow would be selling you a brand new truck for 5k$ you’d probably also agree it has 4 wheels, a steering wheel and will pass safety inspection, but is likely not going to be as usable for heavy duty off-roading as a built to purpose semi custom 75k$ truck.

Quality comes with a price.

Now, all that being said, a high price does not equate quality or function. Some high quality things are just not valued highly because of them being from an unknown producer. Those are the best buys. Other things are priced very high, despite being absolute rubbish.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
