Whisky appreciation

I don't really belong on this thread, since I don't appreciate whiskey, or even whisky. More of a rum and tequila guy myself. But I do have friends who for reasons known perhaps only to themselves do seem to like the stuff, so from time to time I acquire a bottle, just to be a good host mind you.

Since I have an interest in a liquor business, some interesting bottles do seem to come my way, including those below. If we ever have a get together in Calgary . . .

The funny part is that the wholesale price of these isn't that high. I can tell you that the Pappy 20 wholesale's for a bit over $200 Canadian in Canada (although you can virtually never find it). the Weller is about the same. When I see the prices in the secondary market, I can't quite believe it!

yes it is just plain stupid! I can buy a half gallon of weller special reserve (green label)
for 60 bucks and resell for 400 to 500. when you can get it. I can buy a fifth of either eagle rare,
Blantons, weller, or EH taylor frtom the distillery every 90 days, but one a day lol and its about 45
min away.

Currently I have open bottles of Blantons, Weller SR, EHT Single Barrel/Small Batch, and Heaven Hill bourbon. For scotch: Lagavulin 16, Oban 14, Highlands Park 15. Debating buying the Woodford Reserve Masters Collection at my local store. I came into a haul of high end scotch recently (didn't hit the Powerball but this is close for me) but bourbon is my preference. My best bottle of unopened whiskey is a 1983 Macallan 18, but I'm a bit hesitant to open that one.

I would love to get all 8 letters. Where is that store?

That’s about twice the price they should be, but considering the time savings of getting them all at once, it isn’t a terrible value. At least at today’s prices.

Though, it’s kind of like buying a puzzle that’s already put together. The real joy is the journey of searching out and building the collection, in my humble opinion. It took me a few years, but I eventually got it done. The allocation for AZ is pretty terrible.

This should be fun as the temps drop…

Mate, it's just coming into summer down here. Time for beers and refreshing drinks.

Being an Aussie, and a Bundaberg Rum drinker I'm curious, have you tried it? Have you tried the aged or limited edition?

How does our Rum compare to Rum other Rum?

I know it's an acquired taste and unique but I don't have much experience with Rum outside of the one I know and enjoy.

Not crazy about the big peat flavor. Now a couple of ounces of Macallan 18 and I am a gentle, happy soul.
I know that Macallan is appreciated by many and is a very fine Scotch - it’s just Not to my liking - but i’ve Only had a few and one was the 30 year and I didn’t care for it (everyone else loved that bottle). I do enjoy “Aberlour A’Bunadh” it’s cast strength but still smooth and seems hard to find, not too expensive $80-$130 a bottle depending where it’s sold. Also the Aberlour 18 yr is good — at least to me. In VA Bourbon seems to be popular and I’m starting to occasionally enjoy that too. Coming in from a very cold afternoon hunt and seeing “nothing” - either of those beverages is a nice ending to the day.

Don’t like 30 yr Macallan??! Brings to mind a quote from the movie ‘Cool Runnings’, ‘whatever is wrong with you is no small thing’!

A thirty-year Macallan !!!!! That would have been a nearly SIX THOUSAND DOLAR bottle of scotch. I want to meet your friends.

You’re right - something is wrong - what type of Doctor handles this?? I need to see a specialist !! But that stuff is way too expensive to Not enjoy it so I “passed” onto others that were more “normal”

No, not even close to that price - so it might of been a 25 yr old?? This was 8-9 years ago and I believe the price was closer to $600 (I googled it later that week)—- I also think it was a “gift” given from a major business client to one of my Peers —- so he shared it with several of us (he wasn’t that generous to have paid for it himself !!)
