Oh I don’t know. Maybe a 470NE recoiling, or dropping a rifle, or sliding through some thick Jess?

What you think is a defect the designers probably thought was a feature. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Turning the tables, what happens when the battery drawer falls out never to be found again during a hunt?
I have a Vortex Venom on a Springfield Armory XDm-9 with thousands of rounds through it.
It's my daily carry pistol and sees much abuse and I've never had the battery cap come loose.
Have another one on my Benelli SBE2 turkey gun with hundreds of rounds through it...same.

That being said, I do understand that Mr Murphy is always just around the corner.
Having a backup rifle, backup irons, backup scope, backup batteries...I get it.
I just have a limit on what I'm willing to pack.
At some point, I can only be so prepared for what may or may not happen.
I will improvise, adapt and overcome from there.

Hi folks,

The block and adapter arrived, seems to fit. Now to get it to a 'smith...

And that should be milled down to fit the dovetail

Well folks,

Thanks to a little help from a buddy, I now have a Burris Fastfire III (3 MOA) on my 9.3x62

A block from JP Enterprises JPA-GS and Arrendo Adapter made it's way to me with the help of a buddy.

So, the block was milled from:

to

q6MtKUv.jpg

Which fits in the dovetail for the express V. Also a grub screw was fitted by the gunsmith to stop any lateral walk under recoil. (AB's idea)

After which the Arrendondo Plate was fitted:

(Sorry about bad picture, you can see the Arrendondo plate sticking out a bit beyond the block at the back)

With this set up, I get good versatility as the block suits the JPOINT micro red dot mounting footprint which is the same as the Leupold Delta Point, Delta Point Pro, Shield RMS, Shield SMS, and Redfield Accelerator. With the Arrendondo plate, that allows anything with a Docter type footprint to be fitted, so lots of choice going forward).

So, then fit the Burris and here are a couple of shots or what it looks like:

Thanks everyone for there help. Will shoot it some with the Burris and decide if I want to upgrade or change out later. (THough a member of my club has a Fastfire on his 9.3x74 double so I may well not need to!)

Thanks for your input folks!

Sweet.
Let us know how it shoots and how you like it.

Well folks, can confirm I like the new sight set up very much!
i use same setup on my 416 rm, one of my phs uses same on his 375 ruger
cant go wrong they work like a dream

Perhaps an idiot question, but was there any reason to leave that much thickness in the base? I would assume that half that would still be fine?

Did you ever put another red dot on the base? Or did you remain with the Burris?

--> The blue line I would imagine to be the height over bore of the sight plane when still with iron sights
--> The red line I would imagine to be the height over bore of the sight plane for the red dot
--> The white line, is where I would have imagined machining the mounting block to.

Perhaps with a lower machining and an even more low profile red dot, you got get the red line closer to the blue one? Or this does was never an issue for you?

Hi @VertigoBE

No silly questions.

So, the block is machined as it is as it is actually aluminium and I think the gunsmith didn't want to remove too move material as the screws still needed to have enough threads engaged so would not strip (Maybe a little over cautious but it is strong - I fell down a Croatian hillside with it and it held zero).

A little lower might be advantageous but I find it works OK. I use a small cheek riser when I shoot the red dot:

I have changed the Burris for a Leica Tempus ASPH.

Best wishes,

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
