Which Factory 458 Win Mag Ammo should I practice with?

Hello everyone Goodmorning!
I’ve recently purchased a Model 70 458 Win Mag to satisfy my ambitions of going to Africa to Hunt Elephant and Cape Buffalo within the next two-five years. I’d like to start practicing my shooting but I’m not sure which factory ammunition would be the best investment considering I’m going to be target shooting and don’t want to waste money on premium ammo for practice. But even though I don’t currently have reloading equipment I plan on eventually reloading.
My question is what ammunition would you recommend for practice shooting that has a good quality brass for reloading?
Does anyone have any 458 win mag rounds for a good deal? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Before I get the inevitable, you should have bought a 375 H&H to practice with instead of the 458
I would to add that I have experience shooting larger calibers.. No I’ve never shot a 458 win. But I had a Sako AV re-chambered in 375 weatherby I was very comfortable shooting off hand. Along with 338’s, 45-70’s

I would suggest going to Ammoseek.com and see what is available and at what price. I am guessing Hornady will be prevalent and it is decent brass for reloading. I don’t have a 458 but I do have a 404 Jeffery and I bought a bunch of Hornady 404J ammo and have been reloading without any issues.

Buy some brass and a set of die’s and hand load for the .458. It is an easy round to load and there are a myriad of .458 projectiles out there. Start with the 300 grainers and work your way up. I have a current manufacture Winchester Model 70 Safari in .458 Win. I shoot it a lot with 500 grain projectiles and really find it easy to use, even with full power loads. Put a Burris Fastfire IV red dot sight (or similar) in a Weaver style base on the front receiver ring and you will be good for shots out to 150 without a problem. The more you use it the less they seem to recoil. I have use mine on pig, deer all the way up to buffalo.

If/when you start reloading, try 350gr Speer Hot Cor bullets when you can find them. Some sites like Midway often have bullet “seconds” at a good discount. Until then, I agree with others and shoot whatever you can find at a reasonable price.
