Which .416 and why?

one more thing to consider - if your ammo does not show up with your bags and your gun, can you get the same caliber in the country you are hunting? Check with your PH or Outfitter. "New" calibers like the .416 Ruger may not be available, whereas the .416 Rigby is pretty common.

Just a thought...
Your ammo being lost in travel from U.S. is very low if it is in a small pelican inside of your checked bag. Once you arrive in Johannesburg they will check it went you land.

as far as caliber, the CZ 550 chambered in 416 rigby is a great, low cost option. The bullets should be Barnes TSX and solids same bullet weight, same bullet impact at 80 yards. A low magnification scope and you are all set!
You can also reach out to my booking agent, Buck just DM me for his contact information!

Check out my set up! I also included some pictures of the buffalo I harvested in 2021 with my Rigby! You are welcomed to reach out to me DM.

I know a lot of people are going to suggest the 416 Rigby, just because it is so powerful. My vote is for the 416 Ruger. Years ago I was going to buy a 416 Rem., I still think the gun is awesome. But the 416 Ruger is very good gun too and probably a little more efficient with gun powder and the weight of the gun is less.
I believe Hornady stopped making the .416 Ruger ammo several years ago. The .416 Rem and the .416 Rigby are pretty much equal ballistically. I would give the nod to the .416 Rem due to ammo availability

416 Rigby ammo is available in Africa. Many PH own a CZ 550 chambered in that caliber. If you can find those CZ 550 you would enjoy it. Frankly, the greater concern is that you practice with that rifle a lot and get really good with it!!

Not correct regarding the 416 Ruger and Hornady ammunition.

I called Hornady and the lady I spoke with informed me that they are still making 416 Ruger ammunition.

It’s just the reloading brass for both the .375 and .416 Ruger that Hornady hasn’t made a production run in a couple of years.

I hunted with a CZ 550 Magnum, a Ruger M77 MK II and a Heym Express in .416 Rigby.
You can't go wrong....

Was on Gunjoker last night and it looks like Ruger has made a run of 416 Ruger rifles as there seems to be quite a few on the website for sale.

I’d be looking for Hornady to make a run of ammo soon.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
