Where to start

I might just have to follow advice and go with a different approach
my uncle Hank wants to go with me and be a observer/ videoographer that could be a good opportunity

staying open minded and open to suggestions 2024 is awhile away
You started as an equal partner with a mutual agreement, now you're secondary and doing the legwork for a compromise. Been there and found the best outcome for both sides has always been they go there way, you go yours. I am one of the solo hunters here, so I have no problems traveling and hunting on my own, but if you have to have a partner take your Uncle Hank.

Best not to be "alone" in remote foreign country. I've learned my lesson about being "alone" in Africa or any remote wilderness, and glad I am still this side of the dirt.

Why are you putting alone in quotes? I’m assuming you mean have a service like global rescue? I travel on my own nearly every trip, no issues.

Please elaborate!!

I've made numerous solo trips to foreign remote wilderness. Had horrible experience on repeat trip to Africa, with PH I previously used for small group hunt. On 2nd solo trip PH was combative when sober, got intoxicated when in field on hunt with firearm. Realized that it was a 5 hour walk to nearest phone and if I disappeared in the bush no one would know anything. Decided best to always have a wingman when going to remote wilderness areas unless 200% certain of your PH.

Satellite phone rentals are quite inexpensive as well.

I had one, but it was back at the main camp. So when out in field, far from lodge all your possessions not available. You're 100% dependent on someone driving you back to the lodge, driving from lodge back to departing airport etc.

I've had PHs that were less than competent in the past, but never a sociopath I believed would kill me. I suspect that is rare, but no more rare in any particular area of the world. Data suggests about 2% of society would be diagnosed Psychopathic/Sociopathic. What fraction of them would decide to kill, for what benefit, and to attempt to conceal a murder? You're dealing with .0001% and that you could flush out with a reference check for any service.

Agreed about it being best to separate the trip which also separates the responsibilities and blame if it comes to that. Family is slightly different however.

Same here about being basically a solo hunter, only occasionally going on trips with 1 or 2 others. Have always been the solo type. Even for fishing prefer solo trips. Planning is much easier and if it's not a good trip only one person to blame. Have never gone to Africa in a group. Also, have never run into a psychopath PH or guide for that matter but have heard stories about psychopathic clientele and wives/girlfriends. Whew! no thanks! Reminds of Hemingway's "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" :)

And I've had some good trips with small groups of friends but conversely nothing worse than being stuck with a constant complainer. I guess the overall take away on the subject is- pick your hunting friends carefully.

Go it alone. Unfortunately Ive always been disappointed when traveling with buddies - unless you are extremely easygoing. Expectations are different. Throw in a spouse and you’ll be the low man on the totem pole.
I agree. They have vastly different wishes. Better to go alone or be willing to make big compromises. Cow Buffalo are rarely available unless on private land.

Yes my enthusiasm has gotten pretty downtrodden
we have group meetings this weekend

Buddy and I agreed on rsa 7 -10 day plains game with a few additional animals for him buffalo & hippo
his wife now wants to go and repeat a free range tent camp in unfenced area or larger concession
me I never been and want a plains game, kudos, zebra, impala, ect, with a cow buffalo add on , but with decent lodging

where do I round up a safari That can make everyone happy?

I guess I will start looking here and Dallas SCI convention in January

didn’t know his wife was going to monkey with my OIL Africa hunt and would prefer only he and I on the hunt

my budget is total $10-12000
theirs $20,000 PP

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
