Where is still possible to hunt mammals with dogs?

I'm curious about antelopes and bovines in Africa, is it possible?
Bongo are hunted with dogs in Cameroon. The video I attached has an unplanned kudu hunt with dogs in it, but I don’t think any professional outfitter would ever purposely organize that. South Africa they hunt blue duiker with dogs I believe. Rest of Africa I think only the poachers use dogs on antelope, it lets them get close and use a spear or shotgun while animal is bayed.

I watched your video. Thanks for answering.

So we can hunt:
Boars in Brazil.
Racoons, squirrels, rabbits, hares, whitetails (depending on the state), boars, coyote, bobcat and fox in North America.
Fox and rabbit Ireland (but not deer and hares).
Moose in Scandinavia.

Wild boar driven hunt, all over Europe.
In a same manner, in some countries other species: In France - roe deer, in Sweden - moose, etc...
But the point of driven hunt is that dogs drive the game at the muzzle. Hunter do the hunting.

What hounds do you usually use? Norwegian elkhound?
My family have had Norwegian Elkhound, Finnish Spitz and Finnish Hound, but I have hunted or experienced other types or breeds, for example pointing dogs. Hunting with or over hounds have in the past been the traditional style of hunting. Urbanization and changed lifestyles have to some degree changed that, but hounds are still very much part of the hunting culture.

Hunted pigs with dogs once. Didn't care for it. Won't do it again. YMMV.

We hunt problem bush pigs(a lot) here as well as jackal and caracal with dogs.

We also use tracking dogs to locate wounded game.

In the Eastern Cape, we still hunt Bushpigs and Caracal with dogs. Then there is the traditional, yearly Bushbuck hunt with hounds, but almost impossible to get included on those. The Bushpig and Caracal are offered to our clients.

In germany we basically hunt everything with the help of dogs. It´s even required by law to have dogs for tracking wounded game at reach.

Though you are asking for mammals we basically use dogs for the following kind of hunts:

- Den hunting: Terriers and Dachshunds are used for pushing foxes and racoondogs out of their holes where the hunters shoot them. This also works for badgers, though they mostly will not come out and have to be dug.

- Driven hunting: This works for about every kind of game animal here. Hunts will differ in the number of hunters and dogs and the size of the hunted terrain, but we often use dogs to search and push game. Meanwhile it´s most common for deer and boar on driven hunts, where we mostly use breeds like terriers, bracke and wachtelhund.

- Beats: It´s about the same as driven hunts, but for small game animals and with shotguns. Dogs used for this type of hunting do not hunt that far as they need to be in shotgun range and are mostly of pointing breeds, like german wirehair, german shorthair etc. Those hunts target hares, rabbits, fox and game birds.

- Tracking: As mentioned above, it´s required to have scent hounds available for tracking purposes. The european scenthounds are bred for centuries only for this purpose and deliver spectacular work. I´ve participated in tracking a wounded red stag that was bayed by the scenthound after more than 10km and two days after it was shot.

This is my dog, a German Wachtelhund. His primary job is to search and push deer and boar on driven hunts, but I do easier tracking jobs as well, like on this roebuck in May.

My hunt friend in Sweden participates in many hunts and sends me details etc. The Most recent was wolf hunting, this week they are driving 1000 hectares for boar with their dogs.

10 wolves shot in one single ”revir” as we say, that is home range for one wolf family.Often 25.000 hectares or more. The alfa male weighed 55 kgs,one of the biggest ever in Sweden. The alfa bitch is rather big too – just look at her teeth!!! Impressiv! The wolfpack we have here is only 1,5 km to the north…One wolf came in Borensberg a few weeks ago, among the villas! My friend Magnus observed it right in front of his house,in the street ! It didn´t bother at all to meet him abd his dog.

Thanks for your answer, bro!

I don't know the reason, but I usually don't think Germany as a hunting place (maybe too expensive?), but looks like you are having a lot of fun and you have some great dogs with you! Keep up the good work!

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
