Where do you find a big gun?

Cabelas in Wichita KS is only a few hrs from you, we had a 458Lott Ruger on the shelf for about 6mos, beside about 9 or 10 other DG cartridge rifles. Gander Mountain across town almost never has anything big, but they've had 416 and 375 Ruger Guide Guns one or the other for some time - these match up for handling to ANY of the Guide Guns too. Cabelas is the place to look at the big ones here though. The Kansas City Cabelas has had a handful off and on when I've stopped there, but oddly not as typical as what I've seen in the Wichita store.
Funny you mention that 458 Lott Ruger, because I'm the one who bought it. Absolutely LOVE that rifle!

Where do you find a big gun? At a big gun store, of course!
I'd look at Gunbroker too. Used, big caliber guns don't get shot a whole lot, so the barrels aren't going to be warn out. New Rugers, Rems, Winchesters, CZ are too expensive either.
There is a Safari Grade Parker Hale on Gunbroker right now in 375HH I think the price is right and the condition also looked extremely good, If I didn't already own a 375HH I'd buy that in a flash
I found my 375HH at Cabelas doing a on line search, I called them and were open to an offer I bought the rifle and had it sent to CZs custom shop for re-barrel to 404 Jeff

Yeah... So... I don't like you now...

But my WIFE, on the other hand, says "thank you." I've been drooling over that rifle for a while now, just couldn't convince myself to spend the dime for a redundant rifle. But my wife was sure I was going to bring it home one day anyway. Now it's gone, as is my temptation.

EricB saved another marriage :whistle::sneaky::ROFLMAO:

Isn't Tulsa supposed to have the largest Gun show in the US?
Go to the Safari Shows (DSC &SCI) and they are all there.
I just ordered my .416 Ruger on Gunbroker and had it delivered to a friend with FFL. $900 is pretty cheap gamble and then if you don't like it you could sell it. Just a thought on buying sight unseen. Elephant goes down with a $1000 Gun just as easily as a $10,000 gun!
Regards,
Philip

You're welcome to shoot it anytime!

However, it is my first big bore rifle, now I'm in the market for a matching Ruger in .375 H&H so my son can have one! (He'll be a year old a month from this Monday, and already has more guns than I did by the time I was 30!) So my wife isn't too happy, I guess it evens out!

I may have to take you up on that, I'll even spring for the ammo! And if you ever decide to part ways with it, let me know! I got my first DGR when I was a poor high school kid, so naturally, I was looking for a poor man's DGR (relatively) - for which the Ruger M77 Safari Mags were a perfect fit. They'll always be my favorite big bore rifles.

I did a lot of research and went to several gun shows, along with checking out the stock when visiting the big box outdoor stores for other things. In doing so, I was able to handle some Rugers, CZ, Weatherby and other brands. I also checked pricing at the online stores. When I went to my dealer, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and what it would cost me - on that note, be prepared to pay a little more from a brick and mortar dealer. My dealer can usually get within $100 of the online stores and I have the advantage of a knowledgeable dealer who is going to be there next week (and who enjoys just talking guns from time to time!)

In the end, I chose the CZ for both price and availability of a traditional caliber. My caliber was .375 H&H, based on the versatility of the round, the fact that the CZ would hold 5 rather than 3 of other calibers and the price and availability of ammunition. I still haven't made the elephant/cape buffalo hunt as I'm still waiting on the right six numbers on Saturday myself, but it works great on hogs and it doesn't hurt my shoulder or billfold too badly at the range.

Steve Barnett fine guns is a small shop with a wide selection of rifles and shotguns from rather cheap to holy crap level of expensive. He is based out of Mississippi.

It's not going anywhere, fortunately. And I've got another Ruger RSM in .375 H&H coming from Arizona this week, found several on Cabelas website, so there's an option for someone looking, just go to the "Gun Library" and search, there's plenty to choose from, and they're having a no shipping fee for the next few days.

Gunbroker...... bought a new Winchester 375 H&H, and my new CZ 458 Lott off of GB. I looked at a nice Win 70 in 375H&H at
Cabelas last week. First dedicate 2K to your rifle fund, then go see what you can find for that . It certainly won't be a double, but if you look around you certainly can find a 375 for less than 2 K .
