WHATS YOUR FAVORITE RETICLE

All but one of my rifles wear a scope with a basic duplex reticle..

the one exception is my 7mm WSM.. it wears a leupold with the LR Duplex reticle which is nice for longer shots (not that I have ever shot anything with it beyond 200 meters.. but.. I guess its nice to know I could take it to 500 meters pretty easily with the LR reticle if I needed to..)..

Man.... I'll be 100% honest. With the great technology & trajectory of today's rifles/ammo inside about 200-300+ yards... I don't know that you need anything other than the good old duplex. Get to fancy.... look like Nancy.

Agree. The Mil Dot reticles look cool, and on the range it can be fun to pretend you're Chris Kyle, but in real life I'll take a plain duplex, or maybe a #4 every time.

After too many years hunting in day/night poor light conditions, I though is hard to see the animals because a poor natural light conditions..., at sundown, evening or night even with the aid of the moon, it´s very hard to see the boars and deers with the most of the scopes who use a "crosshair" or "mildot" system. In the daylight, the situation changes...
But, in the fields I hunt, the action is 95% night, 5% day... so....
Obviously, the type of animal we want to shoot it´s the chose factor!... To the small game, in my .22 or PCP I use a 4x40 "duplex" reticle (if I hunt in the night, I use artificial light)
But the big game my .308 are equiped with a NIKEL SUPRA 4x36 (great light transmission and no "tube effect") and the infalible and trusty "german nº 1 " reticle. Even at cloudy nights the view is perfect! And the target time very short..

Fully on board with the German #4 crowd.

Unfortunately I have an experimental obsession! All depends on the cartridge, the game, the terrain, the gun, day or night, etc. See, I said I was obsessed :(

I might be the only one with this perspective but I like different reticles depending on the rifle, terrain, shot distances etc. I prefer an old Redfield 2-7 Wide Angle on my deer rifles and something with range compensation for longer distances like a Nikon with BDC. I do not find that duplex scopes hinder my field of vision. I normally spot my game with or without binoculars and then mount my rifle. Very little if any movement is necessary to have my target centered in the cross-hairs. For the most part reticle preference is a "personal" thing there is no good and no bad, just options.

Ridgewalker, we were typing at the same time. I see that you feel the same way I do.

;)
In the military I used the Leatherwood ART scope (traditional duplex) with two "extra" horizontal lines. You adjusted the power of the scope to bracket the enemy's belt and top of his head. The power changing also used a cam to raise or lower the scope to automatically adjuist for range. It was an amazing concept. There was zero need to calculate range by dot size. It was NOT fast for quick shots but since it was for sniping that wasnt a concern.

I have a scope with a Christmas Tree reticle. It "looks" cool but its also NOT fast. Yest it helps with ranging and hold over; but it can be confusing when you need a fast shot.

I used that same scope while I was in the US Army on top of an M21 rifle. In fact I have a Redfield 3-9 power with the traditional duplex crosshairs and the stadia wires to bracket people from belt to head with a range scale built in on my custom old .30-06 built on an Springfield 03A3 action. Small world isn't it.

The next scope I plan to get is a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15×50 with an illuminated Velocity 1000 Reticle right now but then things might change depending on the rifle and caliber I get 6.5 Creedmoor or .300 Winchester Magnum. You never know now days what I may be hunting or what might be hunting me. ;)

Never had a problem killing game at very first, or very last light with a standard duplex, but some of those are better than others. I haven't found a euro/alpha brand scope with a duplex reticle nearly as good as what' sin the VX3, or VX6.

Anyone notice this?

The Swarovski #4 reticle is absolutely clear, easy to use and uncrowded.

The illuminated version of same is crowded, thicker and the east-West crosshair posts crowd the center?

Night and day difference! And by the way, the z6 1-6x24 we #4 is discontinued forcing you to the illuminated model with a rather crude reticle.

Weird. #4 is still my vote.

Anyone able to articulate why the circle dot is near sacred for leopard and DG hunters in general? Never owned one but passions run deep for this reticle.

I like the German #4 and the #1 both but when I ordered a VX3i for my .375 I went with a reticle called the post & duplex and I really like it a lot.

German #4 is what I like. Preferable in a Leupold VX6 with the red dot.

I just came across a new (to me) reticle by Vortex. I think it is really cool. Could be a new favourite:

German nr.4 or German post for short, hard to beat for hunting in the bushveldt. Very fast but you can also take the longer shots with confidence.

I'm personally a fan of the good old Duplex Reticle. Depending on your eyesight, the finer the better for those longer shots.

This reticle appears to have been inspired by the central portion of the Kahles ZF69/ZF84 reticle, which, if I recall correctly, has been copied by at least one maker outside Central Europe. I suspect that it would work best when partially illuminated, i.e. the fussy bits only, for dawn/dusk shooting.
If it gives someone that extra bit of confidence they need to make a good shot on a game animal, though (however awkward it might seem to me) that is all that really matters. o_O :)

KISS - I like to keep it simple. I have a Trijicon with simple post on my DGR rifle. A simple duplex on my regular hunting rifle. I do have a BDC reticle on a CZ 204, but only for use on prairie dogs.... Zeroing in a hunting rifle at 150 yds, i don't need anything fancy from zero to 225 yards...
