What's the big deal about buffalo anyway?

I had my first buffalo experience last year. After taking the tracks we followed into the thorns. Stalking quietly along there was suddenly a loud snort from our right. It sounded only meters away but the wall of thorns was impenetrable. Seconds later the brush erupted as he charged away steamrolling everything in his path. We followed the tracks and they looped around and back to where he had bedded on his back trail. I put my hand up in the air and the ph ranged it over the thorns from where he busted us, 11m. Black Death has been a daily companion since.

As Robert Ruark said, ‘Once you got buffalo fever, the rest of the stuff seems mighty small and awful tame.’

What an experience, buff are for real.

I had Buffalo tenderloin one evening from a fellow that killed one a few days earlier. It was delicious. But, I am partial to the Eland tenderloin from the one I harvested.View attachment 546995
To me Eland is the best eating animal

Most hunted of the big 5 with just enough danger to keep you on your game....done the right way....picking up fresh spoor to follow and tracking.....day after day...until you connect with the right dagga boy....
Stuff it up and you could be in for some exiting stuff....
Dream hunt for most. ...

Eland, Sable are great eating...

Myles McCallum’s recent dust up with a wounded Buffalo should prove cautionary. Thank the Lord, Myles came out on the winning end of that deal. I shake my head whenever I hear someone compare hunting a Cape buffalo to shooting a dairy cow.

It gets inside your heart.

Hunting, keeps you feeling alive.
Hunting buffalo does the same with some adrenaline kicks added in.

The amount of time that you are so close hearing and smelling them but cannot see them just gets more as I venture more after the beasts for myself and with fellow hunters. That one of those times it will happen that one of these buffalo instead of going away will rush through that scrub and come directly at you!

It keeps you on your toes and alive.
