What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

WOW, is the Top Time B01 3 hander overpriced. Breitling has lost its mind with their MSRP pricing. 6 months after a launch they’re 35-40%+ off at Jomashop. The basic 3 hander on bracelet is $5900 MSRP. Insane.

I believe the general rule for Breitling is buy gray market or 2nd hand.

G Shock GW-M5610 (known as the ‘square’) is the only watch you ever need. Especially the only outdoor watch you need if you like simple, small and comfortable. It is solar atomic, around $100 on Amazon and proven for decades. Never change batteries, and updates atomic time every night. I love my mine so much. Waterproof, bomb proof. There is a reason most soldiers wear G Shocks.

Honest to God....I'm on vacation. WTH would I need a watch for?

It depends on the day really. Either a Rolex Deep Sea (birthday present from my wife) or, if I plan to be in the thick, a Hamilton khaki. I have a Garmin Fenix but I hate having to charge it and I don’t take advantage of most of the utilities so I gave it to my 13 year old son who thinks it’s just amazing. He’ll get the Rolex one day. But not yet.

I don’t wear jewelry. Not even a wedding band. It’s an occupational hazard for me. I own watches. I love them. They sit in the safe with my wedding band until my wife reminds me to wear them.

In the bush I use a windup railroad approved pocket watch on a break away chain. Knowing the time is important. Just don’t like the idea of losing one of my wrist watches for knowing it.

I took a few pictures of my watch on my recent trip just for this thread :)

Love the Explorer II. I have the exact same watch and it will be going to Zimbabwe with me in less than a month.

The real crime here is that’s a big watch even by men’s standards and chronographs are one of the least useful complications on a watch plus on a Daytona the pushers are screwdown so it’s doubly useless unless you run around with them unscrewed all the time. Maybe she was taking her split times walking the yard/blocks.
Huh?

I get it, and it makes sense. But here is why...

For myself and many others, it's the same reason they choose a specific rifle in a particular cartridge for hunting elephant or leopard. The shared experience, like driving a 1965 Porsche 356c convertible on a beautiful day on the coast or in the mountains. That's about the best I can put it.

Could anyone take a big box store rifle on a hunt? The mini-van on the Sunday drive? Not wear a watch because they don't care about the time? Sure, no problem. The job still gets done and you are welcome to do so.

For the record, I've never driven a 1965 Porsche 356c convertible, but I'd love the opportunity to do so. And I'll be sure to wear one of my Omega watches while doing so. ;)

I am at the age where one gets up once or twice in the night for a pee and in camp it is so satisfying, if not compelling, to check the time. 2am and you stumble to and from and hit the pillow again with a thud. 4:30am and you put on the kettle for coffee and stoke the fire.
For this valuable information I far prefer the subtle blue glow from my watch dial to the glaring rude shout from a wretched cell phone.

I agree.

This is my G-Grandfather’s 18-size 15-jewel Railway grade pocket watch made ~1920ish. It will be making the first trip to Namibia with me in a couple months. When my grandson holds this watch in his hand I hope he thinks on the family history and value of taking care of something that was made well once. In 25 years there will not be an auctioneer at an advertised estate sale talking up the high quality of craftsmanship of my Apple 27 smart phone. But my watches with Swiss movements,? yea, they’re going to fetch good prices for the kids.

I have my grandfather’s fob watch and chain, never even thought about using them, me being me, I’d be scared of losing them
Gumpy

Nothing classier than a pocket watch on a nice chain sitting inside a vest pocket
Thank you. My wife bought me a very nice Filson Uplander wool vest years ago that the watch and chain look very nice on.

For fun I told her I wanted a pair of jockey pants, jack boots and a pith cover to complete the outfit. She threatened me with buying those items and doing all the packing of clothes for the trip because “you will certainly be too busy and excited to tend to it”. Shrewd woman.

A Daytona is a hunk of a watch. Sure it’s “only” 40mm but add in the 3 crowns and it’s 12.4mm thick and weighs nearly 200 grams. It’s hardly a woman’s watch even in the era of flavor flav style clocks on people’s wrists.

I’ve never personally found mechanical chronographs to be all that useful even with the tachymeter I have a couple low end ones. I really don’t see a use case and find a rotating bezel is just as effective as an oven timer.

The Daytonas chrono pushers are screw down style for water resistance so to even use the chronograph function you have to unscrew them (not really ergonomic to do without taking it off) or leave them unscrewed and sacrifice the water resistance.

So yeah it’s a stupid watch for a lady politician to be running around wearing while doing PR stunts. It’s basically a tonedeaf money flex that she has one of Rolex’s more expensive models. IMO it says look at me I don’t know anything about horology but Rolex is expensive and good right? This makes me cool right?

I’ve never found my Daytonas to be big or hulking. Quite the opposite.

You answers your own question. It’s the least tool watch in the Rolex lineup imo. It is given to loyal customers as a reward for their loyalty. And is worn almost exclusively for style and not work.

Some would say why wear a watch then with vestige functions. Probably for the same reasons your car has features you will never use on it.

We as a people eat our own more than anything. Why would another human care what watch she wears. The constant calling out of anyone that’s had success is what’s tone deaf imo.

I find women wearing full size watches very sexy and classy

Maybe she has man sized wrists lol. I’m pretty sure she bought it gray market as well IIRC from the article “to pass down to her family”

Kudus to you if you got yours for MSRP

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
