What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

Never been one for Rolex, except for the Submariner and the Daytona. Most of the time, I wear an Omega Seamaster Professional, though I do like my Szantos. If I am going to be somewhere particularly rugged, I might switch to a GShock.

Personally, I use a Suunto Traverse Alpha. It has features such as GPS, Low Pressure warning system, shot counter, pin drop , Air Pressure etc.

I stopped wearing a watch after giving up triathlon and cycling 18 years ago. Always carried a small waterproof Garmin Gecko handheld GPS to tell time, track distance and mark waypoints. In addition it was used to track distance and navigate whilst paddling the Kunene, Kavango, Orange, Tugela, Umzinkhulu, Umfolozi and Mzunduzi rivers.

In 2017 I replaced it with a Suunto Traverse, but the battery life let me down on multiday hunts and hikes. I now use a Garmin Forerunner 245. Not to big and heavy, and easy enough for a tech-impaired person like myself to use.

I don’t think a PH knows you flew in first class or you have a 4 or 5 digit watch on. All they care about is that you drop the animal on the first shot???

I used to wear an Ironman, then a similar watch when it crapped out. I’m not a pretentious person..... I’ve never owned a Rolex, doubt I ever will. IF I did I sure as hell would never in a million years wear it hunting. Why.... for the photo ops?

Not sure what you mean by " for the photo ops"....the rolex mentioned are i presume the stainless models. ..and they are plenty tough enough to be used while hunting. ....same applies to the gold versions have friends who wear them daily for last 30 or more years. ...can understand why someone wouldn't want to use those in case of loss...but insurance looks after that....no difference from someone using their boss...purdey .etc to hunt with or take their lamborghini. ..ferrari. ..porsche and hammer it around a race circuit on a track day.....part of the fun of owning them is to use them as much as possible.....and get max enjoyment and pleasure out of them. ....

Those watches are far too valuable ... To take on shikars .

Actually usually none, but if I carry one for some reason for travel, necessity or whatever, it happens to be the only one I have... a pretty darn simple, cheap, small, reliable Casio analog with a one piece nylon band

Major which Cartier tank watch do you have?.... I have the gold tank americaine with alligator strap that I got from my family for my 40th birthday.... That one is too dressy to wear apart from when going out

I've had my watch for 37 years, I purchased it the year I graduated college. At the time the dollar was at a all time high, and with the refund of the VAT, it was a great deal. I wish that had purchased a more expensive model, but I did not purchased the cheapest model either. Yes, it's been serviced several times, the most recent time, the dial and hands were replaced. I could have bought several cheap watches for what that service cost. Yes, it's a status symbol, but it's one tuff watch. I supposed, if I were to buy another watch, I would love a Patek Philippe, however that's not an everyday watch and not as tuff as a Rolex.

For those, interested, Tudor made by Rolex will get you a tuff watch, at a fraction of the price.

Apologies for slight detour.... But a friend of mine who was a big league watch collector bought one of these at auction in Switzerland in the 1980s....and it was shipped to a friend of mine whose family jewelry shop was rolex dealer.... He asked me to pick it up and bring it over to London for him...as in those days used to go party there a lot...my friend in the jewelry shop said take care of it ....and told me the price it had been bought for......I was like oh f--k....and also he said there is another one in there as well..... It was also expensive but peanuts compared to the bathyscape one.....he showed it to me and it was one of the high domed glass versions.... It looked ugly but from collectors point of view beautiful..... I have looked at ...owned ..and handled some pretty expensive watches.....but that was in a different league...... I was very happy to hand them over to my friend....

A vote for G-Shock on my end. Had one in the military, it handled all the bouncing/falling/recoiling etc one does on deployment just fine. It never lost a seconds time and up until last week I still owned the one I had back then, around 2004ish. I don't really wear any other brands, when I go to Africa a G-Shock goes with me. They are not horribly expensive or rare, so if I lose it that stinks but it's not horrible. I personally like the ones with the solar batteries so I don't need to worry about charging, winding or replacing for years at a time. My wife isn't the fondest of it, because it's not really a "dress up" watch and I wear it everywhere but I did get one that was brushed bronze or something so it's a compromise!

One problem with high dollar watches is that they don't hold up to running a jackhammer for 8 hours like us common folk do while working construction. Actually I have seen very few watches that would stand the punishments that a construction job puts on them

For work and hunting, Timex Expedition is the watch for me. I'm pretty rough on watches. I work as a contractor in manufacturing facilities, many do not allow watches, rings, etc. to be worn around moving machinery any longer. So I loop the watchband on my belt, if allowed.

I use a Luminox for everyday, fishing, hunting, golf. Good watch, functional. Also use the face as my “measure of success” for practice groups off sticks (.22 LR) at 75 yd range!! Figure if I can hit a watch face, I should be ok on live targets.
