What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

With my Rolex being in for service I really miss it, feel incomplete. I will always wear it on every hunt, with the little cover my daughter made.
I know the feeling.... But you made the right call. If it was losing the power reserve quickly then something was not operating correctly.

As mentioned I never take mine off. I was just having a mid day beer in the shade. Fed the horses, cows and moved some bales of hay. Hands are dirty, amazingly the watch is spotless. I swear there was no pre production work here lol.

When they do get dirty a bit of shampoo and a tooth brush restores the gleam in minutes.

You know, there are so many threads about tipping vs not tipping, brake vs no brake, Hornady vs Nosler, Blaser vs everything else LOL.

Here is one I have not seen. Watches.... I am a huge watch lover. I was curious what do all of the AH.com crowd wear when on a hunt? I wore a Suunto Traverse Alpha on my last few hunts. I am so anti digital watches, I am a bit of a snob when it comes to watches. But I thought it would be great as it has a built in breadcrumb view via GPS. This allowed me to leave the GPS at home for my backpack hunts etc. But I quickly learned this watch "specifically designed" for hunting, was crap. When in normal watch mode the battery lasts forever. But in GPS mode which I assume everyone is using if they bought the "hunting" version. The battery hardly lasts 5-6 hours. So I am debating dumping this and going back to a good ole fashioned automatic watch. One where battery won't matter. And bring back my GPS which last for weeks in GPS mode.

Stowa Flieger here. Simple, classic, elegant and more importantly not something I’d lose sleep over adding a few scratches to. I’m wearing the Antique Bronze in 36mm case nowadays.

I prefer a watch that reflects the simple elegance and style of a gents watch from the early days of wristwatches. I wear a Longines reissue Heritage Military 1938. Longines has a rich history dating back to their beginning in 1832, and their watches have been wore people such as Charles Lindbergh to Humphrey Bogart.

When each of our four daughters graduated, at their celebration dinner they would be presented with their watch, something beautiful and professional to wear through their careers. Julia got a petite Longines with a mother of pearl face and little diamond hour markers. Kirsten got a Tag Heur aquaracer, with blue mother of pearl face and diamond hour markers . Lisa got my Tag Heur gold and stainless that I got Tag to rebuild for her, and Hannah got an Omega DeVille automatic large mans size, looks great on her. That left my wife Tess, she hadn't ever had a watch, so we all clubbed together and got mom a Cartier Ballon Bleu automatic, which she adores. With that domed glass I think this is one of the most elegant watches ever made.
This was all a big ticket, but they are cherished items that will be passed on, one of the few really special things you can do in life for the whole family.

Not that Tag Heur, Longines or Omega aren't great but the Cartier is aesthetically amazing. I really like how they incorporated a crown protector into the case. Elegant without being obtrusive. You wisely saved the best for last. Well done.

The panerai do something similar. I am still on the fence with the panerai. I have large hands and am afraid that if I ever bend my wrist upward that the protector would dig into my hand. Cartier did it within the case size which is really nice. All this watch talk got me looking at watches. Seeing me throw bales of hay skrn my omega on started to hurt my feelings a little lol. So I was eyeballing a Hamilton

This could be my hunting/ hay bale watch lol.

I have a Hamilton X-Wind for 11 years. I wore it everyday to work as a beater watch for years. Because it is an all brushed stainless case it really holds up to the wear and tear. It is a durable watch and looks good with many different straps.

Very nice!

Fun thread! Some very nice watches! And some interesting opinions on the subject lol
My opinion and just for me, is that I have worked very hard all my life to get what little wealth I have. I’m definitely not a rich man!
I‘ve also along the way collected some nice things that mean a lot to me. I don’t come from wealth so what I have means a lot to me because I’ve worked so very hard for them!
Ive never been one to spend my hard earned money on something that doesn’t have any value after it’s purchased (sadly we live in the days of Walmart and disposable IWatch). So I have two watches, a stainless Rolex Date-Just with a white gold bezel for a dress watch and a Omega 45.5mm SeaMaster Planet Ocean that goes everywhere with me! Including hunts, its just part of me, I wake and it goes on until I go to sleep...

Likewise CZ. I started a business, lost it twice thanks to Robert Mugabe, but now doing ok, so like you I appreciate things I have worked for. Your watches sound really great that Seamaster is very special.

That's a super fine watch there, a very special piece. Like fine rifles, it's great to see these things being used/worn as intended.

None. I try not to wear a watch on a hunt. I leave that to the sun and enjoy whats going on around me.... unless the trouble and strife has me on a lease that day ..... :)

A Rouchefoucauld, obviously. ;)

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
