What scope for a Ruger No. 1?

My Ruger No. 1's that have had 1" scopes mounted on them have used the following:

Leupold FX3 6x42 fixed
Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32
Redfield Revolution 2-7x33
Swarovski Z5 2.4-12x50

double off set rings seem the way to go, for me anyway. i have a few older weaver scopes that work very well. but the quality of the glass is not up to par with today scopes.

Do you use Leupold offset rings?

With my LOP I have to use the offset rings.

The scope I picked up a while back is a Riton 3x9 one in tube and has a extended eye relief.. I have a luepold 2-8 on my 8x57 jrs double .

Would think that either will work on your rifle.

Eye relief is subjective to the individual.
On my 450-400 No.1, the Nikon Monarch 1-4 works just fine with no extension rinds needed.
The No.1 in 7 mag works with a Leupold V3 3-9 X40.
The 7x57 was wearing a Ziess Conquest.
My 458 Win Mag will be used to test a couple of different red dots and the mount.

Having procured my first Ruger No. 1. A lovely gun in 7x57 courtesy of our esteemed member AZdave I find myself in need of a scope. First of all I’m ashamed to admit I am terrible at shooting with open sights. As a kid I could kill a squirrel with open sights but years of scope use has apparently made my iron sight skill rusty. I have an early 2000s 3-9x40 Nikon prostaff that I attempted to mount but I found that it just couldn’t be brought far enough to the rear to allow good eye relief and I have to stretch to see through it. I have determined that I need a 1” tube with a 20mm objective diameter to keep this lively stalking rifle lively. So what scope would you all recommend? I have looked at the 1.5-4x20 leupold VX freedom but what are some other good options?
I have a Kahles Helia 1.6-8x42i on my Heym 7x57. I find it a superb scope. I like the simplicity of it, and the low magnification is very handy. 8x is all I'll ever need. I generally walk around with the lowest setting. Also, check out some of the classic scopes. The Ruger no.1 deserves something nice.

My #1 in 30-06 is mounted with just the Ruger rings with a vx3 3.5x10 and it seems to fit the rifle and me well. Normal cheek weld and plenty of eye box room. Ejection is fine and It does not bother me loading.

Swaro Z5 in QD Alaska Arms Rings has all the scope body you need. Makes a great set up.

How many meters are you anticipating shooting (avg and max)? My recomendations will be different depending on answer

Side question to all of you No.1 guys: What sorts of groups do you expect a No.1 to reliably produce?

I have a No.1 in .30-06, and it's so-so, and really sort of picky. I plan to spend some time this spring reloading to find a "best fit," but so far I'm lucky at about 1.5" groups @ 100 yards.

These rails will not fit every No1 model and some people dont care for the look. However, I have one on my 6.5x284 and love its function. Eye relief is no longer an issue.

I’d yours an older model? This is a 2016 lispey’s run in 30-06. 168ttsx factory load. Just gotta try a bunch, like you said picky! And understand 1.5 is plenty for 350 yards and in. Online forms make “half inch guns” seem the norm…

I tried the following, 165gr federal fusion to about 2.3 inches, 168gr Berger loaded by federal to about 2 inches and 165gr TSX by federal sometimes under 2 inches. Granted these are 3 shots groups and not a great measure of real accuracy. But it obviously likes these 168ttsx the best

Mostly inside 200 yards. Average probably more like 80-100. I’ve pretty much settled on a 1.5-5x20 Leupold VX-3 due to the fairly long eye relief and slim build. I ended up shooting it with irons a fair bit and even hunted it a bit in Texas a couple weeks ago without optics. I have to admit I really enjoyed carrying it without an optic on it. Just wish I would have had the opportunity for a hog while I had it in my hands. And I still don’t think I’d be comfortable shooting past 100 yards without optics.

My No.1 chambered .416 Rigby is achieving MOA accuracy off shooting sticks at 100 yards. Load is 410 grain Woodleigh at 2419 fps. I’ve shot 3 round touching clover leaf groups off solid bench.

I gotcha. I would still if your going the LPVO route recomend a optic with turrets and some type of mil reticle.
it would give you a few tools that will help at all distances and give you the ability to stretch your legs if you choose to. More repeatably.

Keeping good dope on your rifle will also dramatically improve your efficiency. Highly recomend.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
