What Mauser action do I have?

Hello,
Finally dipped my toes into the world of big bore safari rifles. Probably should have done more research upfront, but when you get an itch, sometimes you gotta scratch first ask why later!
So I landed on a "custom" .458 win mag with a Les Bauska barrel. I can see any markings on the action to help identify it, and I am not familiar with muaser actions at all. Any help would be appreciated. Reason I'm asking is, it seems to have an issue with the trigger, and I would like to get some info before I go tearing it apart.

The olde Mauser- Enfield action, I’d say.

This is a Remington M17 Enfield. Yours may be the same, or a Winchester or an Eddystone. Someone can tell you

Not a Mauser but close. It’s either a P14 or a 1917 Enfield. The P14 was originally chambered in 303 British and the 1917 was chambered in 30-06. They either did a very nice job milling the ears off the front sight or it could be a Remington model 30, made after WW1, using a modified 1917 action. Very nice rifle.

Yep. P-14 or 1917 Enfield, not Mauser. It's a fine tough action and you have an excellent barrel. Pick up a Timney trigger for it.

You mean rear sight ears. :D I suspect not Model 30 or it would be identified as Remington on the action. Almost certainly military surplus.

The original trigger in that Enfield was a two stage military trigger. I still have one on an ‘06. IDK if that’s the issue you are having, and I doubt it, since it’s been Sporterized. A Timney does work well, and not too expensive.

You guys are great! That was quick. Anything I should be aware of or inspect before first firing? Once I get the trigger situation fixed.

Got an annoying buddy or BIL? Give him the honors. Let him shoot it first.

What issue are you having with the trigger?

Ahh !! So you are the one that outbid me ! Congrats and nice rifle ! I love these Enfield actions, and in my opinion you got a bargain.

You can just make out what looks like a stamp on the left side at the stock line, pop it out of the stock and see what it is. I’d say a really nice refurbished m17
Gumpy

Looks like the flaming bomb stamp

To my knowledge, just an acceptance proof mark for military use. IDK if different manufacturers placed them at different places on the action.

Requirements were that parts be interchangeable between all 3 manufacturers seamlessly Apparently Winchesters did not initially, hence the circled star mark. At least according to this guy. So probably Winchester. Peaks the interest though, huh?

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
