What is your go to 375h&h load and what do you use it on?

That does not surprise me, the bullet will not necessarily open just because it hits bone. Actually the bullet could have opened up and that is the size it was.

As far the brenneke slug, I can’t comment without seeing a picture. If it is soft lead, well it doesn't take much for them either.

I'll PM you the pics if you want to continue the discussion, I don't want to hijack this thread. Not quite sure how we ended up here anyway.... All I did was make an observation, complement a guy on his shooting, and agree with what you had heard about Barnes bullets and cats. I have nothing against Barnes, they just seem to have a fairly frequent rate of failing to perform as stated. And as I mentioned, maybe that isn't their fault, but that of the supplier delivering copper that is harder than what they require, who knows. Just mentioning things to think about....

Can you elaborate on the performance of the 285 grain grand slam?
Unless you're sitting on a bunch there isn't much use in debating them. They appear to be something that isn't made anymore. Bummer. It's like they are systematically ridding us of any inexpensive or intermediate options in bullets of certain calibers.

Just an aside, today I ran a 10-shot string past the chronograph (MagnetoSpeed V3) of the Federal Premium Safari .375 H&H 300 grain A-Frames. Rifle is a M70 factory 24", standard twist barrel.

Nominal MV is labeled 2,450 fps. Actual MV is 2,447 fps, S-D of 23.9 and an E-S: of 72.
While careful handloading would easily cut those S-D and E-S in half, the actual MV 'aint too shabby, and the calculated ME will get you access to anywhere you care to hunt.

I use 300gr Barnes TSX with RL15..... Anything with 4 legs!

I used to use RL15 until on one hunt temperatures went far past 100 degrees F.

Now it's H4350, H4895, Varget, H4831SC, and Big Game.

Now I don't care about the temperatures. I just work on my sunburn.

I hand load all hunting loads and I’ve tried Barnes TSX 300 gr with good target results. Nosler Partitions 300 gr with decent results on paper. Hornady DGX and DGS too. But the Swift Aframe in 300 grains is the perfect bullet for the 375, IMO. I get one hole groups regularly, as long as I do my part, with Norma 203B at 2500fps. The jacket is tough and gets the job done on buffalo while not tearing up the smaller stuff.
I’ve taken whitetail, impala, blesbok, hartebeest, zebra, kudu, wildebeest, 2 buffalo, and my wife has used the same rifle for gemsbok, zebra, and sable. All with great results and nothing wounded and lost.
I would like to hunt lion and for that I would go with the Nosler Partition I think. But for everything else I will stick with the AFrames as long as lead is still legal. If a lead ban came then my first choice would be the TSX.
The 375 H&H is a wonderful caliber that I had always heard was versatile but shooting is believing. It’s also very comfortable from the bench.

I woul not use the 260 AB on LDE....it is a good leopard bullet.
Rather use the bearclaw...
Actually, after seeing how well my .375 groups 300 grain Bearclaws and TSX together, that’s pretty much all I plan to shoot in it. Gonna shoot Bearclaws on LDE hunt as we don’t want pass-through since the eland tend to be in herds in February.

My dad loads 64.6 Grains of RL15 for the 350 grain North Fork Softs and Cup Point Solids. Norma brass and Winchester Magnum primers.

It shoots extremely well in one Winchester Safari Express, three Kimber Caprivi’s, and a Heym Express rifle. Same POI of solids and softs.

That load has been used with great effect on 7 buffalo, several Kudu, Eland, Wildebeest, Impala, Baboons, warthog, hyena, Nyala, zebra, waterbuck, and bush buck. Stateside it has taken deer, coyotes, bobcats, hogs, and an unlucky Jack-rabbit.

Velocity is approximately 2,317. I personally used that load for one buffalo, kudu, zebra, Impala, two baboons, a jackal and a wildebeest.

The buffalo took first shot lungs. Followed up, two shots lungs, and then two more for safety. (One of the follow-up shots was from PH’s 470 as it bolted)

The wildebeest collapsed with no steps taken. Same for Impala and Kudu. Zebra was lungs then Texas heart shot as it ran. Jackal was 170 paces. Just held top of the back and it was perfect.

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
