So that second photo is an extension ADDED onto the top of standard height magazine? Interesting. The shooter always has the option to switch back to standard box and floorplate.

That is indeed an interesting concept: an optional EXTENSION for standard magazine (NOT an extended magazine - which would have to be longer and attached to the trigger guard = "extended bottom metal"). So the original bottom metal (sans the detachable floorplate) remains in the stock. Forward action screw is removed and this gizmo is attached with longer screw. Not clear how the rear of extension attaches. Must be something to do with the floorplate latch for standard bottom metal floorplate? I would like to see how the extension mates up to the standard mag box. The second photo seems to indicate the top of extension is flat side to side and end to end except the rear where there is a housing of some sort for the latch. Seems the two boxes mate with a thin crack separating them. Wondering if the floorplate latch for original bottom metal must be removed? If that is the case, maybe returning to standard floorplate and original mag box capacity is not optional? That rifle was clearly not magnum. No crossbolts or reinforcement pins and the length of extension seems to indicate something like 7x57. However, it would not be difficult to extend the mag box length closer to floorplate hinge. If you could build one of these and make it work as a true optional mag well extension, that would be very very cool.

Yes. Look very closely and you can see a crack between the optional EXTENSION and original bottom metal that is flush with the stock. Note that the floorplate fits inside the walls of the extension except for some overhang at rear near trigger guard. Makes sense. Overhang there controls the depth of floorplate into mag well but in a location protected by trigger guard. Overhang there also eliminates the need to leave a substantial crack at the rear end of recessed front hinged floorplate for it to clear the box when opened. I am curious how the extension floorplate release was engineered to obviously work with original bottom metal floorplate release inside the trigger guard.

This rifle must be 5+1? That is a substantial extension!

Looking more closely, it appears the entire magazine extension is hinged, not the floorplate. Duh! The floorplate does appear to be separate from the walls of extension. Wonder why? Hmmm. Perhaps to get at the magazine spring for cleaning? Very interesting concept. Could be adapted to rifles that are not takedown. An optional magazine extension makes a lot more sense than changing the action and stock to detachable box magazine. Especially for classic designed rifles. The classic look can always be recovered without major surgery. Most extended magazine CRF guns look like shit no matter what the caliber or how glamorous the wood and engraving. A rifle stock that looks 7.5 months pregnant just doesn't do it for me. At all. A magazine hanging down in front of the trigger guard in an unmodified stock is only slightly less ugly. But slightly less is still slightly less. . Anyway, I just don't see the need for extending the magazine capacity. Four rounds in the gun should be enough. I'm no fan of spray and pray.
