What Have You Killed with the 7x57

@Mr. Zorg ...Upon butchering the deer, I guess it was shot through a rib on both side. So the bullet did exit after all. Now I don't know if the cuts were from bone shards or bullet slivers. I did not find any to really have evidence of either. So at least the main chunk of the bullet is good enough to go through deer body. The deer was slightly quartering to, coming from my left, got hit in the second rib on the "in" side and about the 6th rib on the "out" side. So now I'm not even sure if that is straight enough or not. More shots needed. Ha...kind of difficult with 1 tag a year....Hopefully I will get drawn for Mule deer next year and will have a chance at both...

@Milan,
Thanks for the info, and as always, looking forward to more field data!

You're ahead of me, all I've done so far this season is buy corn for & help fill feeders on property I hunted on last year (friend of a friend's property) but I haven't received a hunting invitation date & time yet. I know the guy who owns the property is pretty busy, no hard feelings about it. I'm hoping to bag an Axis deer some time this season.

Yeah. I wish hunting seasons here were more like central Europe. Most of the year something is in season. Good luck with your axis deer. I may get a shotgun-only opportunity next week and maybe go with some people for their elk cow in Jan. Then that is it till next fall. :(

Axis are open year round in Texas, 24/7/365, like feral hogs, but the guy who owns this property only hunts during whitetail season, and thankfully no sign of feral hogs on his property. I'm not seeking a trophy Axis so no sense paying big bucks for a guided Axis hunt for me anyway.

He's busy taking his in-laws hunting so far this season. 'Nuff said.

I haven’t killed anything with the 7x57 yet. I bought my first one in November. I’m shooting 140gr TTSXs at 2785fps, and hope to drop a whitetail on a trip next week.

After translation from polish to german and then to english , with french help , the following comes out :

In my opinion, a rifle caliber 7x57 is the prettiest rifle to shoot on plain game ( if you go a few yards more to the game ). I have shot Blue Wildebeest , Hartebeest , Kudu , Zebra , Impala , Blesbok , Reedbuck , Duiker and wild dogs with my old Musgrave rifle caliber 7x57. I never had any bullet damage with factory ammunition or reloaded cartridges. Let's not forget that Bell and his rifle.. When I read in other topics " What kind of rifle should my children get " , I advice to choice the cartridge 7x57.

I just so happen to have a Winchester 70 Featherweight in 7x57 on the way as we speak. It's been one of my favorite calibers for years, even though I've only shot one deer with it. That rifle was a Ruger No 1A. I sold it, so I felt like I needed another 7x57 in my collection.

And I appreciate you selling it! I really need to take it out hunting

Bringing this thread back due to shooting another Texas feral hog with my ancient Mauser 93 in the original 7x57. I really like hunting with that round — great stopping power with very manageable recoil.

What loads are you using?

Factory ammo — the Federal 175 grain. I’ve also tried the Sellier & Bellots in 173 grain, but the Federal works best for me.

Hello,
Would you consider selling just the Barnes 235's and 250g TTSX's?

I hunted elephant with Luke Samaris in 2005. It was my fourth safari and I tell you he is a fine gentleman the best. I got the opportunity to meet Patty Curtis, although never hunted with him but enjoyed our conversation around our tent in the Selous. Very sad for a tough guy to leave this world the way he did. Let’s pray the murderers are caught. I hope to see Luke in Nashville.
