What Have You Killed with the 7x57

Attachments

I have my Ruger No. 1 RSI chambered in 275 Rigby setup with a Redfield 2-7x33. I'm using 140gr Rigby bullets (aka Hornady InterLock SP's).

Based on how well my Ruger No. 1A chambered in 303 British with 150gr InterLocks has worked on whitetail deer, I have a high level of confidence that this round combined with this compact slender rifle is going to be a really good option this fall in the southern woods where I hunt. I'm anxious to test it out.

You will love it.

Hello everyone,

I just got back from Namibia and decided it was about time I actually joined the forum. I love the 7x57 and also love this ancient thread, so I'll throw my first post here.

Alamo Precison Custom Rifle, 7x57
168 grain Barnes LRX @ 2640 fps.
(I can elaborate on the gun and load if anyone want the details)

Full pass through on the zebra at 90 yards, ran 50 yards, down.

Full pass through on the Wildebeest at 210 yards, ran 60 yards, down.

Also took a nice Baboon, he fell out of his tree...

Good expansion based on internals, very happy. Can't wait to head back over there with the same rifle.
Welcome from Texas!

Hey, what happened to your barrel? Looks like it’s all twisted and stuff.

culled buffalo with a 7x57 some years ago. used it on all the PG, observed it used on an elephant, its comparable to a 30-06,308,270 etc. no magic other than the press! one of my favorite calibers as its light and can be handloaded to equal the above calibers with less recoil.. I like the 130 gr Speer for PG or our Mule and whitetail deer and the 160 gr Nosler partition or Accubonds..for elk etc.

I have a 1955 BSA Hunter in 7x57. My handloading skills are crude as I only neck size, don't tumble my brass etc, but it still shoots under an MOA at 600yds using cheap PPU brass and S&B bullets:

And I have only taken down a deer with the 7x57.

Over the years, we have taken many deer with the older Mauser loads. The 6.5 x 55 Swedish was a real champ, and we did just as well with the 8 x 57JS. We never had a 7 x 57, but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to pull it from the rack if we had one. I'll have to add that one to my collection.

I remember reading an article on Chuck Hawks website about the magnum craze and how most standard calibers are sufficient for most jobs. I do have a magnum, a 300 Win, but I find myself taking out my 8mm or my 308 Win more often that my 300.

Have taken hogs in central California - big problem there - with a wood Steyr luxus & 150g Partition - takes out a chunk of meat and drops em now. Have a Steyr Professional in 7x57 with the black stock on GunBroker. Great bush rifle with rugged build.

The wood one is my go to rifle.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
