Please tell me what it tastes like?
Also if you have a hippo recipe, If you wouldn't mind sharing

I had it for the first time this year off of the bull I shot in August. It was very tasty. They cut it up into small chunks and fried it then made it into a type of burrito. It was very tasty. I would eat it again without hesitation. Good thing they are tasty as there is a bunch of meat when you kill one.

I’ve had hippo biltong and it was good. Would eat it again for sure. Tasted pretty much like any other beef biltong.

@Royal27 seems to think hippo lips are a delicacy, I know nothing about that however.

These hippo kababs were prepared on the banks of the Luangwa River, Zambia. Exceptional; tender and sweet tasting.

Very good , as stated above- like beef, smoked heart was my favorite, but it was good every way they prepared it, have had it in a couple of camps

Fatty beef says it quite well. Had hippo tail from my bull in Namibia in 2022.

Had some just last month. I was warned not to eat large quantities as it adversely affects your digestive system. Like putting in an express lane. It was good but very fatty. The locals really prized it. I would prefer almost any plains game over it.

Sad thing is if you head down to Colombia to shoot one of Pablo's hippos you'll have to eat him there since the USDA would never allow you to bring him home.

I've had it a few ways. They were all good!

Hmmm. Glad there are fans. Had it twice. Reminded me of tadpole - big fatty tadpole.

No, but I did grow up in South Louisiana - we'll put anything in a gumbo.

Though maybe not hippo.

That’s what alligator meat does to me. I love the taste but a little goes a long way!

Like beef deckle. And I absolutely do love hippopotamus steaks. One thing to remember about hippopotamus steaks. Even though I normally prefer most of my steaks rare, hippopotamus really needs to be cooked to a a medium doneness in order to break down all of the fat. Grilling over an open fire and allowing the fat to melt away and drip on to the flames is an extremely good technique.

Best eaten before they have  :A Stirring:
all joking aside really good on par with warthof imop, its one of those ones that you can’t quite put your finger on? Same as whale, elephant and warthog. When you pop it in your cob your looking for what dose this taste like?????

On a side not I never ate any crock or cat and would still not……guess I’d not survive a plane crash in the Andes…..571

So then, it's HIP...
