Do you use the cartridge belt, a snap cover ammo pouch, or the ubiquitous "Federal Freebie" plastic ammo holder? Or something entirely different?

I use a leather pouch on my hip (belt), plus a single spare in my pocket. The single spare is nice if you need a quick top up, plus that gives you at least one round that is at exactly body temp.

I also carry a couple single spares in different pockets so they don't clink together.

Either a...
Canvas Culling Belt (practicality & comfort).
Or
Exotic Leather Culling Belt (nostalgia & immersion).

I carry 2 x 5 round ammon wallets made by El paso in South africa. 5 Softs, 5 solid/woodleigh hydro or a mixture depending on the day. So thats 10 rounds plus 4 in gun, it's enough

I think culling belts are just for look etc, and rounds fall our when you have to leopard crawl or when you dump it back on the chunting vehicle etc, plus they look stupid on a client, meant for the PH who get you needs to get you out of trouble. If you need more ammo get another few more ammo wallets and give it the head tracker to carry in his backpack with your extra water.

I’ve tried wallets, sling shell holders and stock sleeves in Alaska. They always get in the way or dig into me, especially the wallet from my Barney’s pack waist belt.

Years ago the cheap and simple fix became electrical tape around a magazine’s worth wrapped around a time and a half, with a folded together quick pull tab. Six rounds go in each front pocket of my trousers. They don’t clank or ping or make noise.

Culling belts or cartridge pouches are nothing to do with showing off. Such things are very useful in Africa and can even save lives. Once time ago in West Africa I run away with an elephant behind me and a rifle loaded with SP cartridges. As I fled, I pulled the appropriate cartridge with a FMJ bullets out of my belt pouch. If I had to search for the cartridge somewhere else or remove the electrical tape, I might have perhaps been dead.

I hunt with a Double on DG & usually have tracker or observer carry my backup bolt gun, that said
I use a Murry Leather culling belt with elastic loops (the very best product). If really hot or possibility
of getting wet then I switch to a Trader Keith cotton canvas (WolfEars Equipment is very similar and great quality).
To either culling belt I add one of my favorite knives and Els & Co leather or Wolf Ear cotton canvas
slider with backup ammo for backup bolt gun. When I get back in/on the truck I take the rig off and
when we get out I put it back on in 30sec. If there is no chance, I'll be using a double then I put a
slider and knife on my pants belt (my favorite 3" Hogsback).
This has worked for me in every scenario I've encountered in Africa.

I mainly use the loops sewn onto my shirts and jackets. I also have a leather carrier similar to this, that goes on my belt.

I recently purchased a few of these ammo picked and a belt from Jacques Tredoux I’m very impressed with the quality especially for the money. I’m going to send him some pictures of a larger ammo wallet to carry extras in my pack and see if he can make something similar.

I’ve always used this either on my belt or in my pocket depending on the hunt plus 1 spare round at the bottom of my pocket for quicker access.

For up to .375 I have two C2 6 round leather shell holders from Murray Custom Leather. Don't buy the ones with the silly flaps on top! For my double I use the Trader Keith culling belt. When you get to the larger and heavier big bore ammo the leather belt shell holders are terribly uncomfortable. The leather culling belts look great and are an heirloom type of item but they lack the comfort of the light weight Trader Keith belt.

When chasing dangerous game, I've used a Boyt canvas culling belt. Carrying a double, I load 2, skip 1 for easy plucking of two cartridges at a time out. For bolt gun, I load them straight across. I position this across the front of my hips for easy access.
Plains game I've used a Galco Safari 5 on a regular pants belt.
This fall, for hippo, croc, and plains game, I'll probably go with the Galco Safari 5 on the pants belt.
