I think the P14/M17 safety does indeed lock the bolt closed on safe, but I think on safe it blocks the sear rather than the firing pin. I may be wrong. I am not completely familiar with that particular design. Perhaps the cock on close design allows a safety so configured to control the cocking piece? I looked it up and sources don’t seem to agree. I don’t have one of these rifles to examine personally. Further clarification from anyone with one of these rifles would be appreciated. Best regardsThe P14 and M17 also achieve this requirement. I find the P14 & M17 safety easier to access than a bolt shroud mounted 3 position safety.
