What additional caliber for my R8?

Its like trying to find one caliber for springbuck in the Kalahari and the same caliber for Impala in the bushveldt, one caliber would not be ideal for both....

The word WOODS put me off....
 
.270 Winchester barrel purchased today. Cove Creek Outfitters is great to work with. Thank you all for the advice in narrowing down this decision.

I’m looking forward to getting some practice with it this summer. Seems that this pandemic is going to stretch into the fall, I might get a lot of hunting days in this year.
 
You original post suggested a cal for close woods... I was in the same frame of mind as IvW... but seeing the open spaces and ranges to be used I'd say the .270 is about right for the gap in your current armoury...

Edit: The 30.06, though not a flat shooter like the .270, would still hit harder and with larger slower bullets would not destroy meat.

What about shooting 125gr Partitions at 2900fps at Springbok and then loading 156gr Oryx at around 2500fps for Impala.
Works for me out the 6.5x55.

Yip works I know but strictly speaking the 6.5mm is not legal for impala...not that anybody will check or cares but it is what it is.....

(c) .270 or 7mm rifle for the hunting of- (i) furred game larger than springbuck, up to and including eland, but excluding dangerous game or giraffe; and (ii) ostrich; and
