What additional caliber for my R8?

Its like trying to find one caliber for springbuck in the Kalahari and the same caliber for Impala in the bushveldt, one caliber would not be ideal for both....

The word WOODS put me off....

.270 Winchester barrel purchased today. Cove Creek Outfitters is great to work with. Thank you all for the advice in narrowing down this decision.

I’m looking forward to getting some practice with it this summer. Seems that this pandemic is going to stretch into the fall, I might get a lot of hunting days in this year.

You original post suggested a cal for close woods... I was in the same frame of mind as IvW... but seeing the open spaces and ranges to be used I'd say the .270 is about right for the gap in your current armoury...

Edit: The 30.06, though not a flat shooter like the .270, would still hit harder and with larger slower bullets would not destroy meat.

What about shooting 125gr Partitions at 2900fps at Springbok and then loading 156gr Oryx at around 2500fps for Impala.
Works for me out the 6.5x55.

Yip works I know but strictly speaking the 6.5mm is not legal for impala...not that anybody will check or cares but it is what it is.....

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
