What 416 Rifle Should I Take To Africa???

Take the 416Rem.
Dont worry about availability of ammo. There are ample shops with large varieties of ammo available.

I'm sure the 416 Rem would definitely have more and better ammo selection. Plus I have quick detachable rings on it as well.

Hey, I checked and Brown Bears have laminate stocks at $2500, Sako Safaris have high end wood, but also retail over $8000. So my vote would be to hunt down a RSM Rigby, nice wood and most likely less than $2000. Really though, no surprises here from my end!!!
I found one new for $2300.00. The Sako rifles fit me better than most any other rifle I've felt. Plus the laminated stock is somewhat stronger, albeit not as pretty as walnut. They also have a reinforced pistol grip. But, I know either rifle I currently own will do just fine. Heck, my 375 would work by itself.

Now Toby, quit trying to be rational and talk yourself out of the new Sako. You deserve it!lol

Ok. So far I have 3 votes for 416 Ruger, and 6 votes for 416 Rem. And a few more for 416 Rigby (which seem to be more enthusiastic votes!)

Take the 416 Rem model 70 and don't look back. I did and no regrets at all.

Ok. Decision has been made. Meet the safari brothers. Kimber Talkeetna 375 H&H and Winchester Safari Express 416 Rem. Both have 24" barrels, both have 3 position safety. Both have sythetic stocks. The Winchester weighs 9lbs 14oz. The Kimber weighs 8lbs 8oz. Both have a similar feel and are very accurate. Both would work well for either buffalo or PG, so I should be set!

I also have a Leupold 3-9×40 scope sighted in and set up in rings for the Kimber. So, I have the option to shoot long range if needed. The detachable Leupold rings make it easy to swap scopes back and forth as needed.

Great choices on the rifles and good luck!

Take the Rem

Yeah I'd say you have it covered for sure!

I have the Talkeetna also, it is a sweet shooting rifle!

I am disappointed Toby!

See the top left picture Toby! Channeling 416 Ruger and Cape Buffalo.

Great choice! Wish I could justify one more 375, I’d get the Talkeetna!

JMO, you should take which ever you can shoot off sticks the best.

I wouldn't wanna steal your thunder! You are the Guide Gun man! I plan to kill the only buffalo that's ever been killed by a Winchester 70, 416 Rem with a GREEN Mcmillan stock!

Well now that is setting a lofty goal. Then so be it!

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
