What’s your hunting bucket list

My list is more about the places than the prey. But here goes:

  1. Return to South Africa again in 2025 to hunt DG (Buff) in Limpopo as well as Kudu and a few others.
  2. Visit Free State to hunt a black Wildebeest
  3. Hunt Tanzania - possibly for a Lioness and Grants Gazelle among others
  4. Wyoming for Pronghorn and PD's
  5. Alaska - Just to visit the only US State I have not had the change to see. Hunting or fishing optional.
  6. Zimbabwe or Botswana to hunt - Quarry is flexible
  7. Bull Elk in KY
You might want to research #3.
Unless you know something I don't, I'm pretty sure a Lioness in Tanzania is off the table. You can hunt a male lion but they're pretty strict on age. You can hunt lioness in certain parts of Zimbabwe though

A Cape buffalo with a specific, not-yet-built rifle.

Assistive water buffalo, Argentinian water buffalo, Bison, possibly bentang.

Elephant.

An Alaskan float trip for moose with traditional archery tackle.

My bucket list comes down to 1 animal. Being able to afford a leopard hunt. Since I was a young kid watching those old Mutual of Omaha shows. I have wanted to take a leopard.

Animals that have peaked my interest:

North America
White-Tail Deer - South Texas

Mule Deer - Texas
Blackbuck - Texas
Barbary Sheep - Marfa
Dall Sheep - Alaska
Nilgai - South Texas

Alligator - Texas

Man, that’s not a bucket list that’s a 55 gallon drum list! Good luck with your list!

Have done all I’ve wanted in Africa and US. However, I would like to do at least one more “free range” pheasant hunt like we enjoyed “back in the day” in western Kansas. In 2025, sadly unobtainium anywhere.
I'm right with you. I grew up in western Kansas and there's nothing better than a wild pheasant hunt. And they used to be commonplace 40 years ago. Not sure how the wild pheasants went away.

Already answered with the big ticket items, but should have added something closer to home. It would be to hunt again the old Big Sandy creek bottom I had access to until I was 45 years of age: the wood ducks, squirrels and white tails along with catching the spotted bass out of spring fed water. The whole lot of it sold off one day, and shockingly for a price my family could have afforded had we known. Then it would have been a legacy. Now, it's posted.

I guess I'm going through a phase. Before going to Africa, I of course dreamed of kudu and buffalo, like (probably) most people do when they have only a cursory knowledge of sub-tropical game.

But once I got a sense of the dizzying array of plains game available, my attention shifted almost completely to these animals. Yes, perhaps one day I'll devote a specialized safari to buffalo and/or leopard, but for now my "collector's fever" is wholly focused on plains game.

Finished my spiral horn slam? There's different kinds of zebra, oryx, blesbuck and impala--enough for at least two challenging safaris. Finished those? There's a springbuck slam to do, with possibly another nyala or kudu. Finished that too? There are the more bovine-looking species, like the various types of wildebeests. Then there is of course hartebeest and tessebe. And sable. And roan. And lechwe. And waterbuck. So I guess collecting all the animals I've just mentioned (in their many sub-species) is my bucket list.

One day I may scratch the itch to hunt buffalo or leopard, but if I never get to it, I won't have a heartache. Bongo? Too expensive and specialized. Tiny 10? Not yet interested.

But most of all, what's on my bucket list is to bloody all the wonderful rifles in my collection. Ain't Africa the gift that keeps on giving?

I was fortunate to do a couple January late season whitetail doe hunts out of Hill City. Saw quite a few pheasants, but we we there for deer.

Free range Red Stag. I’ll be going after one in March of ‘[emoji6] in Argentina.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
