What’s your hunting bucket list

I’d like to finish my Big 5 and get one each of all the different bushbuck species in Africa.

In North America I’d like to get an interior grizzly to go with my brown bear. I am also warming up to the idea of a polar bear hunt, even though I can’t bring it home. Some of the replicas I’ve seen at SCI are amazing.

I am hoping to draw a mountain goat tag this year in Alaska, been trying for 6 years now. I’ve been fortunate enough to get a Dall sheep. If I am ever going to hunt another sheep, I’ll have to draw the tag, since the cost without drawing is more than I am willing to pay, if I’m spending that kind of money hunting it will be in Africa.

Happy to help, I did post a hunt report that should be relatively easy to find. I am also happy to visit if I can be of help. PM if so.
Thank you. Let me read the hunt report, and then circle back (after the Super Bowl). Appreciate the reply.

Can I ask why you are waiting to draw goat vs hunting an otc area like kodiak where the limit is 2? Just curious. I'm guessing you have a special area in mind

If wishes were fishes…

Africa-
Bigass buffalo and sable. Leopard. Eland.

Argentina-
Shoulder bruising dove hunting.

New Zealand-
Red stag and tahr.

North America-
Elk. Desert Bighorn. Caribou.

I’ve got a really good interior griz outfitter if you ever need it

Perhaps this is unusual, but I wish I could hunt every huntable duiker.
Do you have this book? I foolishly sold my copy years ago and can't find one reasonably priced now. It's the best book I've found on the subject.

My list is short these days.

- I want to shoot my 8th wild oxen species on my 6th continent by shooting a water buffalo in Malaysia. Completing the SCI wild oxen slam diamond level.

- I want to shoot a mountain lion to complete NA Super 10.

- I'd like to shoot 1 more big moose in Akaska before I retire and move. Pending my non-resident kid drawing his tag.

- A family safari to Africa.

Finished the last one that was truly a long dreamed of quest not quite two years ago when I finally took a Capercaillie in the Austrian Alps hunting him traditionally at dawn.

This one has been on my bucket list for a long time. I need to get this hunt done.

WAB - I'm headed to Romania in late October. Will be hunting chamois in Retezat Mountains, and bear in as of yet unknown location as we are waiting for 2025 licenses. Much appreciate if you share some of your experiences on the hunt - or point me to an old post. Curious about the hunt, what you brought, where you stayed, and any other details you think are pertinent. Many thanks, Sir.

I’ll be in Romania in November of this year would love to hear experiences from both of you.

In addition to the capercallie I mention above it is what I hope to get on my first Africa trip next year Buffalo and sable. Behind that I dream of an elephant and for the more close to home a mule deer. I’ve been skunked on three different occasions. Unfortunately muley tags are getting harder to get and more expensive. I’d love to hunt one in Mexico but I’m worried about the security there these days.

I want to try spear fishing with snorkel equipment.

I definitely want to hunt elephant again. I’ve taken two and it is by far the most exciting hunt I have done.

Leopard is in the future. I’m most interested in the level of patience involved. Having done a lot of tree stand hunting in the US, I’ve got an idea of what it could be like.

Surprisingly, some hunts that I really want to accomplish are at home. I want to take a grouse with my bow on my property.

My bucket list looks like the following BUT A North American Sheep remains my overall #1 bucket list animal and I’m counting down the days until it’s time to tackle that hunt.

1) Complete the Super 10 (I’m booked for 3 of the last 5 I need - Moose & Caribou in Alaska, and a Dall in NWT). I’ll probably book Greenland for Muskox in the very near future and it’s only a matter of time before I draw a mountain goat tag. Hoping to do it all in the next 5 years.

2) Finish my Big 5 - I’m considering heading back to Zim in 2027, to once again try and target a large male leopard. Buffalo or Elephant will likely also end-up on the list.

3) Complete my Tiny 10 - I’m heading to Coutada 11 in 2026 to target the last two (Red Duiker and Suni). Very possible Buffalo or Hippo/Croc get added

4) Hunt Tanzania for the Maasai species. This will likely be a retirement gift to myself.

5) Hunt an Ocellated Turkey in the Yucatán

6) Hunt all 6 inhabited continents

7) Kill a 150” deer on my own property

In the meantime I’m already booked for a trip to Zambia this July (2025) for a Sable and Kafue Lechwe. I’ll also continue applying and building points out west in hopes of one day drawing a Desert or Rocky Mountain Bighorn tag, as well as some additional premium Elk and Mule Deer units. Fingers crossed I get lucky and draw a bighorn tag before it’s time to do the dall hunt.

I've been searching for this book like crazy but had no luck. Instead, I read about duikers and other small species in Bovids of the World.

In order:
- Leopard
- Lion

That will make 4/5 of the big 5. I have no interest in rhino, but would be happy to substitute hippo or croc.

- 200” mulie
- brown bear
- big tusker (60# plus)
- mid-Asian ibex
- Alaska moose
- Caribou

one that will never happen but will always remain on my bucket list is harpooning a whale. There can be no greater rush than seeing chimneys of fire and taking a Nantucket sleigh ride.

On a slightly more realistic note I’d like to hunt all the bears before my time is through.
