What’s your beater rifle?

I have a Ruger M77 Mrk II in 30-‘06 with a Leupold M8 4x scope.

It's a shotgun actually. Mossberg 695 bolt action 12 gauge, magazine fed, with a fully rifled barrel, sporting a Leupold Vari-x II 2 - 7 x 33. Up until recently we couldn't use rifles for whitetail where I live, and this rig has been amazing. Aside from a rather rough trigger, its awesome and stands at the ready to go afield.

And the whole thing less ammunition weighs in around 7 pounds. Recoil on paper is just plain stupid.

Also not a “beater” in the truest sense of the word but it’s built for and has taken a beating. Pre 64 Winchester m70, stainless Lothar Walther barrel chambered in 338-06 in a Pacific Research stock, black cerakote.

I guess I would have to say my original .404 Jefferies. At least mine is a very plain Jane rifle. M-98 action. Rugged rear island sight. Again rugged front sight on ramp. When I purchased the rifle the stock was not original and I did not like the stock that was on it so I put a Bell & Carlson stock on it.
If I could ever find an original stock (not likely) I would take much better care of it.

Put some 3" lightfields through that gun and your backside it will hand you. I can still feel mine roar. I put a large limbsaver on it and filled the stock with #9 lead shot. It tamed it considerably.
This is another setup that when you're hunting you still feel the recoil. The experts that deny this are not liars per say, but have a likable tendency for exaggeration and know much that isn't so.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
