What’s wrong with Belted cartridges?

The belt was to my understanding simply an easy way to headspace, no more no less. Never heard of the .300H&H not being accurate. Ben Comfort won the Wimbledon Cup with it. I think too much is made of it.
You often hear that you can only get 2-3 loadings with the brass and it must be chucked. Nonsense!:rolleyes: In every belted mag I have owned I have gotten many loadings before any sign of separation appears. In particular my .375 mag, it has never happened. Its all about setting the die right.

Someone mentioned something about the case slipping into the chamber after firing?o_O Having a hard time envisioning what that means or how it happens. If someone could explain it that would be great. I mean where is it going to go?;)

I full length size my belted cases (7RM and 375HH) right down to the belt and never have any problems. Every time they mike out to factory specs, feed and chamber just fine.

Can you elaborate on "right" vs not? I'm a novice reloader and just ordered my 375hh and 470ne dies...

I am perfectly happy with my .300 Win. and it's lovely belt..Plenty accurate for me..

Me too but rarely use it. Always some other rifle I take out. It’s a case if it’s too big for Rusa or too small for big stuff.
Ah well I guess the spiders are happy.

As was already noted above, set the die so that instead of full length resizing, partial resize so as to headspace off the shoulder instead of the belt. Its easier with rounds like the .338 that have a good shoulder than with the long tapered ones like the .300 Hollands, but it can be done.

300win mag is used by military and police snipers all over the world. Clearly if belt was a issue for accuracy this wouldn't be true. Don't let this worry you. I have no idea how the "beltless" marketing even began. Non sense.

i sometimes see comments implying he belt of belted magnum cartridges is a disadvantage. What am I missing? I even have an expensive die that can size down to the belt.
My first a .300wm, second .458wm, third is the .375H&H the only one I currently have .
I may buy a 7mmRM or .300WM for a hunting rifle, maybe even a .338 wm one day
I understand a flanged case may be an advantage in double rifles.
Maybe I think true Magnums are belted, I dunno a little old school but limited experience
Other than some developments of smaller cases providing similar performance
What’s wrong with the belt?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a belted cartridge. .264 Win Mag, 7 Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, .338 Win Mag, .375 H and H Mag, .416 Rem Mag, .458 Win Mag and all of the Weatherby Mags are belted.
The above cartridges most likely represent a sizable percentage of those used for big game hunting Worldwide.
They all work just fine.
