I had a lovely visit to this fine establishment today:

Imagine my surprise, during a discussion of Harare, when I was asked if I knew our very own @kevin Peacock! As we all know, Kevin is a distinguished gentleman of refined taste. Apparently that fame has spread to Birmingham.

In all seriousness Kevin, you are obviously very highly regarded at WR!

Well I never! I do buy their excellent clothing, best in the world.

Agree with @KevinPeacocke. WR hunting shirts are the best. A bit pricey, but the brushed twill will keep you warm on the early morning ride up top in the hunting truck, then when the sun warms up, roll up the sleeves. I especially like the ammo loops above the breast pocket. Great for keeping a few rounds of 416 Rigby handy.

Scarfs, hats, canes, luggage……. Thought they made guns:unsure:

Enjoy your time in the UK!

Their guns are quite spectacular. I’m sure they would have let me, but there was a large sign in the safe requesting no photographs be taken there.

Is that a standard operating procedure for most London gun rooms? They probably wouldn’t even let me through the doors

The Westley Richards factory is indeed a very special place. The wife and I were there a little over 3 years ago to complete my order and get fitted for a rifle. We took the train from London, my first train ride, which was a really neat thing. We spent the whole day there and I must say that it was one of the best experiences of my life!! It took 3+ years to complete and was well worth the wait. In my opinion the best currently made in the world, but of course everyone will have their own favorites. The detail and craftsmanship is unbelievable.
Of course I had to do a little retail therapy as well, leather gear and some clothing. The quality is top shelf to say the least, especially the leather department.
I also agree the expedition shirts are great. Just wish they made them in left hand.

Enjoy the holidays!

Are you going by Rigby or any of the Mayfair gunmakers?

Safe travels.

Yes they will let you in.....I was in London and Birmingham in Oct 2016. I sent emails and phone calls to Wesley Richards and John Rigby a month a head of time to be able to tour the facilities. WR 's safe is a safe within a safe. It houses custom rifles and guns that belong to many of the world's elite. The factory is up on the second floor (if my memory is correct) Rifles and guns are made only once ordered and take 2-3 years depending on what you order. Rigby is in the center of London, across the river. Many shops in the Mayfair area. I bought my sxs 12 bore from William Evans in the center of London on that trip. HH, Beretta, Purdy and others are in the center of London within walking distance. Plan on at least three days, and you still won't see them all.

Aaron,

Will post a couple as soon as I get a break from work. But in the meantime if you check the WR Explora page and type in the search “ Left Hand Gold Name “ that is it.

That is a truly exquisite piece of art, and that is an understatement!

I spent a glorious afternoon in their Birmingham showroom a few years ago. The staff could plainly see that I was not their usual clientele, and could not afford what was on offer, but treated me with the utmost respect and attention. A real class act all around.

when I was last in London I happened to walk into Purdey’s literally as they were locking up shop (I didn’t realize it till after we walked in). A gentleman asked me if he could help me and I said no I was just in from out of town and always wanted to drop in. At this time the outer doors had just been locked and he said “well, I’m sure you’ll want to see this.” And he walked us back to the gun room, which had already been locked. He opened the doors, ushered us in and for another 10 minutes had a good old time looking at those amazing guns while he told some history about the room. Knowing we we were holding them up I told him we’d try to come back for a longer visit the next day. We walked out the front (he had to unlock the doors to let us out) and we went on our way.

a very cordial gesture from them.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
