Is that a model 70?

OK Phil, you are either going to have to give me a lot more pics, or a lot better description if you want me to guess what it is, (other than a M70)!

What newer M70 is awfully hard to find in this particular caliber?

Well, it looks like a pre-64 super grade. And since you said it's hard to find a newer one, I'm going to say odds are it's the glorious 300H&H super grade.

Hedging my bets, I'd say 257 Roberts, 250-3000 savage, 358 win and 7x57 in that order.

(Watch me crash and burn with 5 guesses)

Yes a pre-64 Super Grade in .300H&H would be a most excellent find. But yep, you're down in flames. I wouldn't call a pre-64 a newer model.

So it's post 64, care to try again?

No. never. I view post-64 like I view the second three Star Wars movies. They don't exist, it never happened. In my egotistical world your new gun is basically Jar-Jar Binks!

;)

404 jeff
or 338 win

.375 Duh...

Alright Phil, I'll play your silly game. All glossy & the knurl on the bolt handle makes me think maybe a New Model Super Grade? 7X57? Shoulder on the barrel don't look big enough to be a big bore.

Guess you'll have to live in your pretend egotistical world.

Rob's on the best track, just a bit ahead of himself. After giving up hope sometime ago of finding a M70 in .300RUM I happened across one this weekend at a Cabelas in Georgia on their website.

It will soon be on it's way to Wayne at American Hunting Rifles for conversion into a .404 Jeffery. This was a total want buy and not a need. But the stock from the pics I've seen is in really great shape. It will get some channel work to make room for the larger contour barrel. I just couldn't pass it up.

Big grin :D. Good for you. What vintage? Field or Super Grade? Tell us more. Inquiring minds want to know. Oh and some more pictures.

Looks like a field grade, but a bit better than the standard. Definitely not a SG. The pics on the link show what look like scratches where the scope bases were. I used that to talk the guy down a bit on the price. Turned out it was just some leftover Loctite which he removed. But he didn't go back on his price, so winner winner. The original pics in the thread were sent to me after he cleaned the rifle off.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
