Well boys, what's your temperature like now?

About the same here. No idea about wind chill- but dang cold! Been helping some friends with firewood last couple days. When it’s this cold, before starting, I put the chainsaws on the stove for a little while ;) The Stihl has always been a bugger to start when really cold, much harder than the Husqvarna.
Saws on the stove?… wasn’t joking :)
Simple tip

-21F this morning in Western WI, but it was -28F with the wind chill tacked on.

Two years ago we had brutal cold and it cost me $4400 in propane. Here's hoping this blows over quickly before I have to sell a kidney.

Minus -7 for a high here in the Twin Cities. It,s so cold The Hookers on Hennipin Ave are giving Fat guys a 20% discount

It's kinda funny, I'll be in Greenland in 5 weeks so I watch the temperature daily. Preparing myself mentally for how cold it might be.
-10 here and currently +38 there lol
Greenland? Is Trump sending you there to help with the sale to the US? LOL

This morning, shortly after 4am....

This is a reminder that people need to have their chimneys cleaned annually, most don't but they need to.

Years ago I was at a friend home on Christmas, when I left I noticed the fire trucks pulling out of the station a block away so I just waited until they cleared and were on their way, they headed in the same direction as I was. At the corner they turned right, I turned right. At the next intersection they turned right again, I turned right again. Then they parked in front of my home blocking my driveway. I looked but couldn't see anything. I had a wood burning stove so I was doing some wondering.

I walked up to the fireman that was manning the truck and asked him which house they were there for? He pointed to my neighbor to the south so I just got back into my vehicle and watched.

Turns out my neighbor decided to get rid of all of his Christmas wrappings in the fireplace. Well, when those pieces of paper caught fire it also ignited a chimney fire that was shooting flames a hundred feet into the air which singed a overhanging tree. There was no damage but it was close.

If you've ever had a chimney fire it is a damn scary event. Flames sky high and sounds like a volcanic eruption. Clean your chimney at least once a year and watch what you burn.
Years ago, had a chimney sweep give me this tip. When you have a nice established fire going and the chimney is warm all the way up, burn some cardboard boxes. There's something in the cardboard that will scrub creosote out. I've been doing this several times a season ever since to keep the chimney clean.

I’m a husqvarna man though my new one has the auto tune self adjusting carb. It’s slow to warm up.
Off topic, but I have an older Sears Craftsman (Poulon) I want to replace. Stihl or Husky or something else?

Go try both and see what you like. If you’re getting along with a poulan either will be a big improvement. If your going to start cutting wood regularly I’d get something in the 60 to 70 cc range.

Jeezus! I don't believe it! Sat down to check the forum on my phone and look down to see a tick crawling up my thumb! It's -27 outside. Where did this guy come from? Just a dog tick. Hope he enjoys the swim to sewage treatment pond.

Possibly it crawled out of the wool pants I put on for the walk to pharmacy this morning (wind chill -40 C). Only wore them twice this year hunting in Montana in December. Both days it was extremely nasty. Shot this rooster in blowing snow, 28 degree F, and 50 mph wind.

The buck on Thanksgiving morning about 5 degrees F.

Had to bundle up for the hike to pharmacy because I discovered the Envoy I bought in Montana in December to replace Jimmy that wiped out a deer has no block heater. That vehicle was sold new (years ago) from a Montana dealer WITHOUT A BLOCK HEATER?! It has all the gadgets, including garage door opener, remote car starter, Kenwood stereo, etc, but no block heater. Crazy.

Depending on how much you use a saw, I'd look at a electric one.

I have two. A 40 year old McCullic and a 30 year old Echo. Echo cut one heck of a lot of wood but since I got rid of my wood burner it just sits in the garage. The McCullic only has a 18" bar and used to stay in my truck most of the time to cut trees out of roads and trails.

I worked for an arborist who used commercial husky's and I've had a trouble free stihl 390 for 15 years. Either will have its problems and the pros up here use both. Power is important but be mindful of weight and realistic of your needs. I would love a smaller saw for limbing and smaller work to compliment my 390 but I've just never done it.

I have a fairly new Stihl, but it identifies as a Husky. Actually, the Stihl dealer is about 10 minutes from where I live. I didn't like the Stihl clam shell case, so I bought the Husky case on Amazon and it is so much more useful.

I have never had a chimney sweep clean my chimney and never had a fire. In the deep south, we burn hardwood, typically oak. I am wondering if there is less or no creosote (pine resin) build up. I can remember as a kid in Spokane, Washington and northern Idaho, burned a lot of pine, spruce and fir. Had to clean the fireplace every couple days as the amount of ash was considerable, but never remember having a chimney sweep clean the chimney.

11:18 this morning and 4:18 this afternoon.

Still coming down.
