Weatherby Rifles?

Wow this is great info gentlemen. I wasn't being too specific about calibers, I threw 338 out there as an example. I was curious about more the weatherby rifles themselves but I'm glad you guys brought up the weatherby calibers. I like the smaller weatherby calibers, the 300 wby is about where I draw the line on comfortable shooting accuracy personally, much bigger than that and they start getting abusive haha. I really like the Barnes loading as well as the partitions in the 257 wby. I'll take a crf action if I can get it but this far a push feed hasn't failed me yet. On dangerous game I'd want a crf for sure but on pg I don't mind push feeds as long as they are reliable.
I've collected hunted shot reloaded Weatherby mark 5 rifles for over 40 years. All of them have been accurate. Leave in the pressure pads in the forearm or skim bed the action and glass bed the first 2 inches of barrel, free float the rest. That usually works with a number 2 contour barrel and heavier.

Thanks! I am looking at either a weatherby vanguard s2 in 338 win mag or a ruger hawkeye in 338, I can't quite decide which yet haha
If you are looking at .338 caliber get a 340 wby Accumark. I have couple of them. I don't have a problem shooting them. In a pinch it can handle any game on earth.
You can get 165gr bullets to 300 gr bullets for it.
Borrow or find a friend who has one. Try to shoot it and then decide if you are not in a hurry. 375hh and 340 wby are in the same class in recoil. Where as 340 wby is a 0 to 400yds gun. It will work well on Amrican elk in the west at long distance and well on PG's in Africa. 340 is good for all North American games including Brown and polar Bear..
From your previous posts I see you have owened and shot 450Rigby and 500J. So it shouldn't be an issue for you.

high velocities hardly apply on DG these days most serious hunters that own the odd 460,....reload, at a magical velocity of around 2350fps to 2400fps pushing a 500gr. this is probably the deadliest stopper comercially available today, put a 550gr in its throat and its a charging cat destroyer..........
If you can hit it!,,! :) :) :) ;)

what can i say i luuuuv em!

A 500 grain 460 ( 458 ) bullet at 2350 fps sounds like a 450 Rigby to me .

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
