We have a puppy

Introduced the cat last night. Loki (20 lb Maine Coon) came over to check out Rusty. At one point they even touched noses while checking each other out.

Well, they weigh almost the same now. Rusty is 19.6 lbs and Loki is 20.1 lbs. He is going for a month-long training in April while I am overseas. He'll be 6 months old then. We still get up, but only once now, at 3:30AM. Girlfriend takes that shift as she can sleep in until 7 as I get up around 5AM to start my day at which time I take both dogs out.

Been working on obedience, and retrieve with focus. He will sit there at this point until I release him with his name or whistle and go get the bird or the tennis ball I have thrown minutes earlier. Also, been working on hiding a bird and have him hunt and find it. He will go away for a few months for further training while I am in Europe sailing starting next month.

Well, I was in ND this past week hunting wild pheasants with Rusty. He loves to hunt and the energy is amazing. Here are some pics.

I'd say he is 70% to 80% from being a finished dog. Then again, he is only 14 months old. By next hunting season he should be there.

On one of the birds I actually thought he was wasting time as I was following him to almost 50 yards of where the bird had dropped at an angle that was to the right-hand corner of the original location. And he found it, guess I gotta trust my dog.

Always trust the nose!!!!

I don't hunt in CA if you don't count the pest rabbits and squirrels in my yard (10mm steel ball headshot works real well with a slingshot). He'll be hunting pheasants in SD and UT.

Does California require you to register the slingshot and go through a waiting period to own one?

Raising a bird dog and seeing them do what they are bred for is the best. I miss having bird dogs. Maybe it’s time again.
Absolutely. I didn't even care about finding birds (though we did, plenty) just seeing the dog work the field on command and happy while doing it was a pleasure in itself.

Best hunts are behind your own dog. Congrats on your pooch talent. (y)

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
