So as a long time member of the forum. I have to ask the question. Because many of you know I'm a surfboard shaper/glasser. Who of our fine members have pictures, story's or perhaps even surfed Africa.
Of course there's the famous surf spots around South Africa, J bay ECT. But have any members visited the Beaches of the continent and have stories, photos ECT of the Beaches of Africa and any surf they might have witnessed there. Even just coastal story's. I'm truly interested. I know Namibia has some great surf spots. Interested in anything beach ocean related just to spark a new thread to talk about. Let's rip lads
Cheers

All I can offer is; anywhere I’ve worked in the worlds oceans. Anywhere there are big waves. There are “Big Hungrys” as we called them.

I’ve surfed Morocco about 3 times and can thoroughly recommend it. I stayed with Moroccan Surf Adevtures, who are great. As with anywhere you are subject to the conditions but Morocco picks up huge amounts of swell.

Oh my God. Look at those waves.

Any photos
I might have one or two of me at Boilers

My wife doesn’t do the ‘standing on the shoreline with camera’

When asked - her response is usually short with ‘off’ being the second word

I’ve surfed France, Spain (Mundaka) and NZ

However I have a unique talent for turning up and it goes flat

PS

I have surfed with some of the guys from Moroccan Surf Adventures but we always travelled independently

PPS - I got the largest waves of my life at Killers - Approx 5m swell - so 25-30 (ish) foot faces

I nearly drowned at 18 years old surfing Waimea Bay in 1979 when the beach was closed. It was me and the locals. In surf far above my skill level. I learned I wasn’t as invincible as an 18 yr thinks he is. I did 4-5 cycles through washing machine before I finally got out past the breakers.

I stayed on the porch after that. And stayed in my lane of skill level.

Waimea in 1979. Talk about a time to be on the north shore. Do you remember Jerry Lopez dominating Pipeline and Shaun Thompson and the Aussie guys showing up and challenging the status quo. My time there was in the early 2000's

Sorry I did not follow the names. And back then actually didn’t know there was such a thing as world famous surfers.
