WARNING: Temp gun ban on SAA flight thru London

Havent gone thru UK since 1990 on my Botswana trip. I do remember there was some issue and all the passengers on my just landed flight had to go thru extra security exams and in the process my camera got nicked by someone on the ground.:mad::mad::mad: Going Delta this year for the first time, even paid extra for comfort seating. Hope it goes well.:cautious::cautious::whistle:

Whoever is to blame, nobody is making it easier for us to fly with our firearms.

On last year´s hunt I decided not to take my own rifle, this year I´m still thinking about it.

This is an SAA issue not a London issue.

I realize that but I have $20,000 worth of rifles to get back to Calgary, so a change of flights maybe called for

For years a friend kept insisting on going through Frankfurt enroute to Nambia... either to save a couple hundred bucks on the flight from Joburg to Windhoek or to avoid overnight in Joburg. And hassles through London have been going on for quite a few years. These problems though Europe are not new. Each time these are real hassles- not just inconveniences. Unless your are from Europe why not avoid Europe completely. The extra day and $200 +/- have always been worth it for me. Just saying

Absolutely agree. When I hunted Namibia I went NY to Johannesburg to Windhoek, easy flight no hassles.

The damn Brits charge $100 for the privilege of carrying a rifle through their country. It's not like your carrying the gun through the terminal it's just being held in the belly of the aircraft.

its because they use the security company to offload , store and reload your firearms onto the plane. this means any problems then they know exactly who was moving them etc....so in the overall picture not that much money i think........this has been gone over so many times as well......if you dont want to fly that way its your choice, but if you do then flying BA all the way is not a problem with firearms...

All the airlines are joining in the "fee rush"; Peanuts, bags, seat choice to firearms handling.

Yes it cost $100 US to get my guns from Joburg to Windhoek on Air Namibia

They joined the game a couple of years ago. Have to make a profit.

Just got a note dabout this from The Hunting Report. The note included the following:

This development should not affect North Americans, who do not typically fly to South Africa through England.

As I write this, I am sitting in the AC lounge at Heathrow, waiting for my flight to JNB on South African. For a hunting trip.

I think that by "North Americans" they mean "Americans" because me and a whole lot of other Canadians fly to South
Africa via London.

Maybe we aren't North Americans anymore?

Can we blame Donald?

No according to Justin there are no Canadians, and as a extension if there are no Canadians they can't be North American

I think you have that wrong. According to Justin there are no Albertans.

I won't find out.

For the first time in some years - 10 I think - I'm not bringing a rifle. I have to spend some time in London on the way back looking for a place to live, and it just seemed easier not to have to find someone to look after the gun while I was in the UK.

@Hank2211
Only £250 per week for some "nice" student accommodation. :ROFLMAO:
Getting educated won't be cheap.

Well @Hank2211 at least you didn't get caught up in it. Good luck house hunting in London - I personally would suggest West London, somewhere near Chelsea. Then again I have my own selfish motivations as I'm a big fan of a football club there. You don't mind house guests right?

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
