Please let me know if you have a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather in 30-06 that you would like to sell. I am willing to pay to have your FFL do a background check prior to shipping of the rifle. Thank you

I ask because I'm curious to learn...why would someone need to have an FFL do a background check before sending a gun to another ffl? I think it might be illegal for an FFL to run a background check on someone who was not buying a gun from them. Am I missing something?

I offered to allow an FFL to do a background check because some people might prefer that procedure and to show I am not a "scammer" or "criminal" that should not be purchasing a firearm. If the FFL tells the seller that he is not allowed to run a background check because I am not purchasing the firearm directly from the FFL, just shipping from the FFL then so be it. The receiving FFL does not run a background check, just verifies i.d. of purchaser receiving the firearm.

That makes sense, I just don't know if it can be done. As far as when you buy the gun, any FFL you buy a gun from, which is what happens when someone ships a gun to your FFL, is required to run a check. The person selling you the gun on here, has no responsibility at all, as long as they ship it to an FFL. Once an FFL has it, they are the ones actually selling it to you. They would lose their license if they didn't run a NICS check on you.
