I'm looking to purchase a used copy of "Shooting the british double rifle" by Graeme Wright. I'm located in Europe so it would be great if one located on the same continent showed up, but if not I don't mind importing it from anywhere else.

I'm not picky about condition of the book, but if pages are missing I would like to know in advance. Edition-wise the third edition would be ideal, but not essential.

@perfectlyroundlead Welcome to AH!

That's a tall order nowadays as that book is scarce even with 3 printings. I've seen it go on sale very rarely, priced high and quickly sold. You may be better off asking members for specific information from that book. Good Luck with your search!

Hi there

I have a copy - which I'm don't wish to part with - but I'd be happy to supply any specific extracts if that's of any help to you.

Yeah, no joke, the book is fetching $500. You can buy mine for $500, or I can give you page data on anything you want for free if you send me a PM.

Wow, $500... Thats a bit too much for myself as my interest is mostly in black powder (and muzzleloading doubles). If I was doing any modern cartridge double load development I would've probably paid it. Thank you for offering to help with looking up stuff. I may PM you regarding it. For now I have all the information I need from the book as a person on another forum generously took some pictures of it for me.

I also enjoy collecting books about firearms (mostly antique, black powder, but also doubles) so if a copy shows up for let's say $200~$250 (I know - I wish) I'll definitely get it.

The books that go in and out of print you need to comb the internet for:

Any shot you want (A-Squared) Arthur Alpin
Shooting the British Double by Graeme Wright
Woodleigh Bullets Loading Manual by Geoff McDonald
Pet Loads by Ken Waters
African Rifles & Cartridges by Pondoro Taylor
Old issues of the Double Gun Journal for any articles by Ross Seyfried
Cartridges of the World

Those books contain 90% of the known written texts to load double rifles and vintage guns. The remainder is stuff you'll only learn from talking to the masters that are sadly aging out quickly.

If you have money to spend and don't want to drop $500, keep on the hunt for all the others in the meantime, you need them all. Set notifications and reminders on eBay to notify you when they get listed. I picked up a $300 book for $35 that way just the other day. (Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century vol 1 by Michael Petrov) Also search abebooks.com as you can occasionally find a deal, especially if its a fair condition copy. (book collectors troll Abebooks so the dodgy stuff often is ignored and priced for a pittance)
