AHF Family, I come with hat in hand! This may be a long shot, but one never knows what might be sitting out there on someone's shelf unused. I recently acquired from an estate two Sterling Davenport rifles, both on Sako actions - one in 416 Dakota and the other in 284 Winchester. An odd combination for sure, especially when you consider the dangerous game non-CRF component for the 416D. I would have loved it if they were on Mauser or Win Model 70 actions, but whoever engaged SD for these rifles must have had an affinity for the Sako actions. I have no experience at all with Sako's, so consulted my three Amigos - @Dirtdart , @RR 314 and @SkullKeeper. All indicated we are talking about a Davenport here and it would probably feed as reliably as just about anything, so don't get too caught up on the action. They also pointed out I have multiple other options for dangerous game, so look at this one for what it is - the opportunity to acquire a Davenport. That said, it would be nice to know it was up to the task if ever called upon. I'm sure there are plenty of Sako afficionados on here that could speak about going afield with with an L691, so please feel free to chime in. Anyway, I digress - I have been able to get my hands on a set of dies and a very small number of QC cases, but wanted to see if anyone out there has any original Dakota brass they would consider selling. I know they can be made from other cases, but wanting to stick with original head-stamped brass. There was a post in the past year where someone disposed of a ton of different Dakota brass calibers, but running down that lead was a dead end, although I met another cool member in @woodsman1991 ! If anyone has any leads, I would be much obliged for any intel. Many thanks in advance for the consideration and please feel free to PM me for sale or trade - I might have something you need or want. The following pics are exactly as it came from Mr. Davenport - I could be wrong, but don't believe it has ever been fired.

Beautiful rifle. As you know from one of the other Davenport’s in your stable, Sterling absolutely loved the 416 Hoffman. He and George Hoffman were great friends. He preferred the 416 Hoffman, even when the 416 Remington was (later) in production. Don’t you know that it gave him angina to do one in 416 Dakota? :-).

As discussed previously, I would certainly test the rifle under all kinds of conditions, but even without doing so, would almost assure that it is flawless. I will keep my eyes open for brass. I owe you and Dirtdart both. :-)

Thanks @RR 314, his work is always exceptional and this one is no different, but my fav is still the Hoffman I got from you - that one is gonna be hard to beat! No doubt it probably gave SD some pause when he built this rifle - one has to wonder why the client chose this particular caliber when he could have easily picked one of the other more popular 416's with readily available components. That said, I also tend to gravitate towards off the wall stuff, so I'm in no position to judge. Thanks for keeping your eyes peeled - hopefully something will turn up.

Oh, me too! :-). It is a great chambering. I’m sure we can come across some properly headstamped brass somewhere. I will check Hendershot’s in a moment.

Thanks @CZDiesel. I bought the last bit of 416D brass Quality Cartridge had on hand and visited with Pete (their owner, I believe) about a possible next run. He indicated it will probably be a while as there just aren't that many requests for it. Consequently, I'm actually trying to find some of the original Dakota brass, if it does in fact actually exist, lol. BTW, how is that beautiful 458 WM from their custom shop treating you?

I’ll keep looking for you. Have you tried Superior Ammunition?

I love the 458, shoots incredibly well and accurate. Though lol I just sent it to LeRoy Berry to be restocked in Turkish Walnut. I wouldn’t have done this but I wanted a drop box on it to hold six rounds. With me not being the most mobile person I don’t want to worry about reloading if things go wrong!

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
