Hi all,

I’m looking to purchase a hunting rifle in .416 Rigby, and figured I’d see if any of the members here had one they’re getting tired of.

I’m not in a hurry, but I have feelers out and regularly check the usually suspects. Sportsman’s Legacy and Steve Barnett both have a Heym Express that I have my eye on, but I’d like to see what else is out there.

Not looking for anything rare, fancy, engraved, etc. just a nice shooter I can drag thru the bushes. Budget is $6-8K but I can go higher for the right gun. Wouldn’t turn down a nice one for less money either!

Thanks,
Jon

I have a Ruger RSM in 416 RIGBY for sale. You could shoot it, drag it through any bushes, then whack your buff in the head with it:). IT IS DEFINATELY NO HEYM EXPRESS THOUGH lol. Good luck with your search.

I have been keeping an eye on one of the Heym’s as well. Twin to a .404 Express in the safe. I have an AHR in .416 that I would consider parting with and then I have a reason to buy the Heym. Haaaa. Only problem is the AHR is absolutely as new. You would have to put the first scratch on it. :)

Any guesses at what this Rigby listing above will go for? 45 bids so far 10 hours to go. I'm thinking 12-14k. It sure is built on the right action, and from the 50's. That would be a good one.

This looks like a great option to me. I posted it on the good gun deals thread quite some time ago. Have someone install a M70 three position safety. It’s already set up for pivot mounts so you just need the rings. It’s been on there for a while so they may work with someone on the price

I can`t comment too much about the prizing but, this Rigby is not entirely original. It has probably been re-stocked and also refinished at some point. This will of course affect the value.
It is however a genuine Rigby with all the goodies exept the stock..the awesome Rigby barrel profile with Rigby original iron sights, quarter rib. Can`t get any better than that.
It is also made on a Brevex Magnum Mauser action, one of the very best actions ever made.
Nice buy at 10K I think.

I ended up winning this auction and I found this post/forum in my effort to validate its authenticity. You answered my concern about the chackering, but the thumb cut and upside down proof marks are giving me some hesitation as other brevex actioned rifles I've seen aren't like this. Did some of the brevex rifles have the military style thumb cut?

I'm still waiting to hear back from the factory wrt verifying the letter...

Thanks Tex! Cool to see that AV has one. Really glad that I found this forum. Everyone has been really friendly.

@Accidental Villain does yours have a thumb cut? I can’t tell from the photos in the other post.

No thumb cut. I don`t think any of those Brevex actions have thumb cut.

@John Telford here posted this one in another tread. I think Tony Sanches is bang on regarding the numbers produced. With regards to the small number produced its cool to see we actually have a few of them on this forum. Awesome and interesting.
From Tony Sanchez book . Great African Calibers. His two great loves were the .416 and .500 Jeffery.

Right. That’s what has me concerned about this one’s authenticity. The letter says brevex, but the thumb cut seems to say milsurp.

It passes all the signs of a Brevex Action to me. I wouldn't be surprised if Roberts cut out the thumb hole. The only way to find out if it's a Brevex is to check the markings underneath the action. They wouldn't have put Brevex on the Rigby letter if they were unsure of the origin.

Any knowledge on the upside down markings on the barrel? I’ve never noticed that before.

British proof marks from the proof house. Not the first time I've seen them "upside down" like this one.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
