Hello,

I am beginning my search for a 2015 Leopard Hunt. I have hunted several times in SA and in Tanzania this past year, a couple of my buddies took leopards, but they were very expensive. There have been some amazing last minute deals on leopard via this site, I can go on short notice, so I can wait for one to pop up next year. But I would rather plan out the trip ahead of time. I will also be out in Vegas this year at SCI. A couple of my hunting buddies will be hunting with me interested in plains game hunting and some culling. Looking strongly at Namibia, but am still open to ideas.

Hi Jeff

I'm worried that you understood me wrong. I only want to give you the heads up on what's happening in the hunting industry as far as leopard hunts are concerned. And this is what this site is about. Right ? I really want to help you.
Take note of what people tell you , especially if they've done it before. Listen to guys like James , he's sold more leopard hunts than most people on this site. There are a lot of unscrupulous outfitters out there . Its so easy to bag a hunter on a great leopard deal and make him shoot plains game only , knowing the chances of bagging a cat is slim. As far as $ 28 k for a cat hunt is concerned , I think its a great deal if his success record is close to 100 % and he shoots good cats. Leopard hunting is unlike any other hunting you will ever do in Africa. You have to hunt a really good cat area with a really good cat guy. Period. There are too many things that can go wrong.
so , DO NOT book a leopard hunt with the guy that SAYS he's the expert and looks the part. Get references , check hunting reports. The fact that Mr. White hunted with xyz outfitter and got a cat and now thinks that XYZ is THE cat hunter out there , means Nothing. Now , if 5 different hunters tell you that , some of them seasoned African hunters , you might start thinking. Ask the outfitter for the contact particulars of a hunter that did not get his leopard...
I will leave you with some food for thought. There is a well known outfitter that is active on another forum that has a beautiful website , it has an impressive write up on Leopard hunting , and it gives some info on the hunt that makes one believe he knows what he is doing. The site also sports a picture of a hunter with a beautiful leopard. He books leopard hunts every year. He has never , ever bagged a leopard. Maybe he does this year , so the fake picture can come off and a real one added. I'm sure this guy will make you the deal of a life time if you asked him.

I honestly hope you get your cat someday Jeff , its one of the most memorable occasions of ones life.

Let your PH know your only going to take leopard. Don't make it a plains game hunt. By that I mean if I do book another leopard hunt the only thing that will be shot is bait and the leopard. Let him know the only trophy fee that will coming in off that hunt will be the cat. Might make him tell you to look for a different PH that truly has a chance at a cat.

Could not agree more I still have to be honest in saying ph's/outfitters that are serious about leopard hunts and continually take quality Leopard do not sell them for peanuts.

Those are the guys that have waiting lists and that are booked out reasonably well in advance.

I for one would rather spend more and know that I am hunting with a reputable outfit/PH if the question or situation as discussed above arises, something went wrong in the decision making process.

100 % on both your posts. There are too many Leopard hunts booked where the outfitter knows the chance at success is slim , but he books it bargaining on making money on the plainsgame , and MAYBE getting lucky on a leopard.
On the other hand I would be wary of anyone guaranteeing you a leopard.
As far as price goes : why would a good PH/ Outfitter with good success on Leopard , hunting a good Leopard area , sell his Leopard hunts at $ 12 000 when he can get $ 25 k plus for them ?
Makes me think of the story of a ( then ) well known outfitter who one year booked lots of cheap Buffalo hunts. Out of 20 clients , maybe 6 hunters got their buff. The reason is simple , the others were walking cattle tracks on a huge cattle farm. They just never could connect with those Buffalo on the short 5 hunting day hunt..... Day rates are fully paid though. The trophy fees were the cheap part..

Quite correct Jan, my point exactly. We have hunted with way to many hunters on they're 2nd or 3rd go round on these magnificent cats.

I would like to clarify, one can market your Leopard for which ever price, you'd like you still have to bag them.

There are never any guarantees but with hard work your odds will more than double...

Agree with Jaco and Jan, a leopard is never guaranteed, but hard work pushes up the odds. I also had a hunter this year taking one with me after failed efforts in our neighbouring countries. Once again such a pity about our permit system.

The only way one can guarantee a Leopard on a hunt is if the PH intend to shoot it in Pretoria Zoo.

After going though your request i am sure that we can accomodate you with a leopard hunt in one of the greatest hunting areas in Tanzania Rungwa.
