...I picked up a mannlicher-schönauer in 3006 to do a rebore to 9.3 but the rifle is too nice and it hurts my soul to bore it and beat it up. Would be interested in finding another slick action 3006 for a rebore if I can't find a 9.3. Ms, husky, etc.
I commend you, sir, for not altering a Mannlicher Schoenauer sporting rifle.
To unnecessarily rebore an M1924 would be a heinous act, an M1950 or later only a bit less of an offense.
The .30-'06 MS are sought after by those (particularly in the U.S.) who have ready access to and familiarity with that round, know of the qualities of the MS, but have limited access to nor interest in metric cartridges.
All Mannlicher Schoenauers in original, unaltered, condition are highly collectible and valuable.
I have an M1910 (9.5X57 - .375 Nitro Express Rimless) Takedown Model for which I reload.
If you'd like to have a Mannlicher Schoenauer that you can beat up with impunity and have it eager for more, find a surplus Y1903 action, rough and ugly, and build a sporter around it with stock, scope, and furniture appropriate to its intended use.
The 'Greek Contract' Y1903, Y1903/14, Y1903/1914/1927 'Breda' and 'System 1930' had the very same 'action' as the venerable M1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer. All were chambered in the still available and highly regarded 6.5X54MS.
To convert any Mannlicher Schoenauer to accept and cycle another cartridge, however, involves modifying Otto Schoenauer's precisely machined rotary magazine and housing to accept and cycle the new cartridge with the legendary smoothness and reliability that it had with its intended cartridge prior to alteration .
That is an act better left to magicians and sorcerers.
